UG Medical Counselling Conducted by the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee): Guide for Aspirants

The MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) conducts the UG Medical Counselling process. If you are a NEET undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) aspirant candidate, find out all about this counselling process. 

UG Medical Counselling is the process of allocating seats for undergraduate medical (MBBS, BDS, etc.). It is conducted after candidates become eligible for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG). Authorized bodies like the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) manage this process. 

The counseling process involves online registration, choice filling, and allotment on the basis of NEET-UG rank. Undergoing this process and its successful completion can lead to fair admission to medical colleges for students belonging to various categories. 

What is UG Medical Counselling offered by the MCC (Medical Counselling Committee)?

NEET Undergraduate (MBBS/BDS) aspirant candidates should know that the Medical Counseling Committee conducts UG counseling for:

·         15% All India Quota seats MBBS/BDS Seats of States (participation of the Union Territory of J&K is subject to their contribution of seats),

·         15% IP quota seats of ESIC,

·         100% AMU,

·         100% BDS / MBBS Seats of BHU,

·         100% MBBS Seats of AIIMS across India ,

·         100% JIPMER seats (Puducherry/Karaikal),

·         100% - Faculty of Dentistry (Jamia Milia Islamia) along with 5% internal Quota of Jamia students,

·         85% of State Quota seats of DU/I.P. University (VMMC/ABVIMS/ESIC Dental)

Note that the reservation of seats for the Physically Handicapped (PH) category has been increased to 5% now, from 3% earlier. Now, 21 benchmark disabilities listed under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, are also included in the PH category. This makes more people eligible to take part under this provision.

Step-by-Step Procedure

Here is a Step-by-step procedure that you should follow as an aspiring candidate:

Registration

·         If you wish to participate in Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, internal quota seats of colleges under Employee State Insurance Corporation or Institutional Quota (internal) seats of Central Universities (Aligarh Muslim University/ Banaras Hindu University/ University of Delhi/ Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi), register at the official website of Medical Counseling Committee (www.mcc.nic.in) or the respective portal. 

·         You have to type in your DOB, application number, NEET roll number, email id and mobile number during registration. 

·         Finally, you have to pay your counselling registration fee as well as the security deposit fee (amount varies by institute / category). This will complete the registration process.

Candidates of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh can participate against the 15% All India Quota seats

Choice Filling & Locking

·         You have to log in and fill in the information about the courses (MBBS/BDS) and colleges of your preference.

·         In order of priority, you have to arrange your choices (you can fill unlimited number of choices).

·         Before the stipulated deadline, you are supposed to lock your choices. Unless locked in time, your last saved choices will be auto-locked.

Seat Allotment (Round-wise)

Seat allotment is run by MCC/State Authority, based on your choices, availability of seats, NEET rank and reservation

After the allotment process, a provisional seat allotment list is published first. This is the draft result for verification. Following corrections/confirmations, the final allotment list is released.

Download Allotment Letter

If seat is allotted to you, you should visit your portal to download your seat allotment letter. 

Reporting to College

Next, you have to report to your allotted college within the specified timeframe. You need to take along these necessary papers:

·         Original documents

·         Photocopies (Allotment Letter, NEET Admit Card, 10th/12th Marksheets, Score Card, Caste/Category certificate if applicable, passport-sized photos and             ID proof).

You have to pay admission fees for seat confirmation. 

Upgradation / Further Rounds

If you need a better seat, you have to choose the option “willing to upgrade” at the time of reporting.

You can participate in:

·     Round 1, which is the round for first allotment.

·     Round 2, where you can upgrade, and some candidates are also allowed new registrations 

·     Mop-Up Round, which is mainly for Central/Deemed/Private seats,

·     Stray Vacancy Round (this is where colleges fill up the leftover seats)

You can lock your seat if you feel satisfied.
