Eligibility :

Biological Science	Any branch of biological sciences to pursue research in the broad fields of Cellular and Molecular biology, Cancer biology, Developmental biology, Structural biology, Chemical biology, Plant biology, Plant molecular and developmental biology, Plant genetics, Plant tissue culture, Behavioral biology and Ecology, Genetics, Marine biology, Neurobiology, Biodiversity, Microbiology, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Food technology, Physiology, Human Physiology, Medical Biotechnology and theoretical biology, Epigenetics and Chromatin Biology. Candidates from agricultural science (such as genetics and plant breeding) and nutritional science backgrounds are also encouraged to apply
Chemical Science	Bright and motivated candidates who have passed M.Sc. examination with minimum 55% marks in any field of Chemistry or Physics. Besides satisfying minimal eligibility criteria, the candidates must have CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, INSPIRE fellowship or other equivalent fellowships
Earth Science	Geology/Applied Geology/Geophysics /Earth Sciences/Marine geology/Environmental Sciences/Environmental Studies/Atmospheric Science/Environmental Engineering/Civil Engineering or any other branch of Geological sciences. Or Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics/Biological Sciences/Computational Seismology/interested to pursue research with the DES faculty member in the matching specialization.
Mathematics and statistics	Candidates having their own valid PhD fellowship (UGC/CSIR-NET JRF, NBHM or any other equivalent fellowship) are strongly encouraged to apply. Few Institute fellowship(s) may be available for candidates from other IISERs who have BS-MS degree with a CGPA score more than or equal to 8 on a 10 point scale.
Physical science	Applications are invited from motivated candidates having Masters degree with at least 60% aggregate marks in any field of Physical Sciences for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Final year post-graduate students who are yet to obtain their degree may also apply; however, they must complete the MSc/MS degree at the time of admission with the requisite 60% aggregate marks. Additional or desirable background is necessary for some topics, and it is mentioned in parenthesis wherever applicable. People from other departments and interdisciplinary area are also taking students from Physics background and those research areas are mentioned here. Students interested in applying in these areas are requested to apply in those departments directly (see the adjoining link). If by mistake they apply under the Dept. of Physical Sciences, then their applications will be cancelled. Reservations for SC/ST/OBC candidates are applicable as per Government of India rules.
Center for Advanced Functional Materials	Bright and motivated candidates who have obtained M.Sc. and/or M.Tech. degree with minimum 55% marks in the areas of Chemistry, Physics or Biology. Unless specified, the candidates must have CSIR/UGC-NET JRF, INSPIRE fellowship or other equivalent fellowship.

How to apply:

1. Please have your picture (soft copy, preferably in JPG or PNG format) ready.

2. Please read the department wise eligibility criteria carefully.

3. The applicants should open the link (http://apply.iiserkol.ac.in/application) and properly fill the application form as instructed. The form can be opened and edited/corrected until the last date.

4. You must complete your application, the incomplete application will be rejected.

5. Applicants should save the properly filled application form and take the printout after you finish and bring the signed copy at the time of the interview if you are shortlisted.

6. Download the Recommendation Letter, bring this document at the time of the interview. The recommendation should be in a sealed envelop.

Selection procedure:

List of shortlisted candidates (based on merit, subject specialization, and required research area) for an interview will be published in the IISER-Kolkata website.

The Institute will not provide any TA/DA or accommodation for attending the interview.

The selected candidates will receive the offer letter containing also the last date for joining shortly after the interview.
