The minimum Academic Qualifications required for BITS, Pilani First Semester Ph.D. Entrance Test 2020 required are passed

  • M.E. / M.Tech. / M.Pharm. / MBA / M.Phil. or an equivalent Degree with at least 60% marks aggregate in the qualifying examination 
  • M.Sc. / B.E. / B.Pharm. or an equivalent degree with at least 60% aggregate in the qualifying examination 
  • For admissions to Humanities and Social Sciences, candidates with a M.A. degree and a minimum of 55% aggregate may apply.

    Students applying for the BITS, Pilani First Semester Ph.D. Entrance Test 2020 have to fill up the application form on the official site. A student can submit the application for only once; multiple forms will be rejected.

    A candidate can submit only one application form for PhD admission. However, if a candidate discovers any mistake in the form to be submitted by him, there will be an edit option which will be made available before the final submission of the application form, which he/she can make use of to incorporate necessary changes. This option will be available only till the deadline for submission of the form, i.e. 5.00 P.M. on 30th June 2020.

    The Subjects included for BITS, Pilani First Semester Ph.D. Entrance Test 2020  are:

    • Candidates shortlisted for test in any of the following Departments : Biological Sciences / Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics will have to write two tests. Test - I will be common to all disciplines and Test - II will be discipline specific.
      • Test - I question paper consists of 30 multiple - choice type questions pertaining to General Science, Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis and Research Aptitude. The duration of Test – I will be 1 hr. Each correct answer will be awarded two marks. 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
      • Test - II will be subject - based and will consist of 70 multiple - choice type questions covering the prescribed syllabus of relevance to the candidate as given on Page 9. The duration of Test – II will be 1 hr. Each correct answer will be awarded two marks. 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

    Candidates with M.Phil. / M.E. / M.Tech. or with National level fellowships like CSIR NET - JRF, DBT - JRF, UGC NET - JRF etc. are exempted from taking the above test.

    • Candidates shortlisted for Test in any of the following Departments :

    Humanities and Social Sciences / Economics will have to write two tests. Test - I will be common to all disciplines and Test - II will be discipline specific.

    Examination Day Instructions

    Before entering the Exam Centre

    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card. 
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Have a cookie or a chocolate just before entering the centre; this prevents hypoglycaemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
    • If it is a busy centre, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
    • Usually no bags are allowed.
    • No eatables are allowed.
    • No communication equipment such as mobile phones / pager / wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic / digital gadget etc are allowed in the exam centre; carrying one will lead to disqualification.

    After entering the centre

    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat. 
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat. 
    • No candidate shall be allowed to leave the examination hall/room before the expiry of half of the time allotted for the respective paper.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
    • Smoking is a not allowed.
    • Misbehaviour of any kind can lead to expulsion of the candidate.
    • Caught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet / cancellation of the candidature.
    • Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to cancellation of the exam for that candidate.
