JMI Entrance Exam - (B.Ed.) - 2018 Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree with not less than 50% marks (except B.A./B.Sc. vocation courses).


  • Bachelor’s Degree with not less than 45% marks except B.A./ B.Sc. (vocational) courses AND at least 50% marks in Master’s Degree Examination in any School teaching subject. Applicants for teaching of Commerce must possess a Master’s Degree in Commerce with at least 50% marks. A candidate must have passed at least two teaching subjects up to graduation/ post graduation level. However, a compulsory subject likes General Urdu/ General English/ Compulsory Hindi will not be accepted as teaching subjects. Subjects such as Mathematical Physics, Electronics, Biotechnology etc. will not be considered as a teaching subject. However, if a teaching subject which has been studied at graduation level for two or more years and its marks had been counted in awarding the division, may be opted as a teaching subject.

Candidates who have passed the following examinations are NOT ELIGIBLE:

  • B.Com.(Hons.),B.Com.(Pass),B.A.(Hons./Pass)in Commerce, B.A./B.Sc.(Pass/Hons.) in vocational subjects;
  • B.A. Examination in one language only, after completing an examination conducted by Language Education institutions (e.g. Sahitya Rattan, Adlib-e-Kamil etc.);
  • M.Sc.(Biochemistry),M.Sc.(Biophysics),M.Sc.(EnvironmentalBotany/Science),etc.Such candidates may apply on the basis of their graduation qualification if the same is as per the eligibility conditions.

    More Information

    1. Admission of eligible candidates to all Programs offered by various faculties and Centres of Jamia Millia Islamia shall be done through merit determined on the basis of an Entrance Test conducted by JMI (Except B.Tech, B.Arch, BDS), and wherever applicable, followed by an interview and/or other components. For B.Tech., B.Arch., admission is offered to eligible candidates as per merit on the basis of ranks of candidate in JEE Main 2018. Admission to BDS program shall be on the basis of merit in NEET-2018 and conducted by Medical Counselling Cell (MCC) of D.G.H.S. GoI. In case of any vacancies transferred to JMI by MCC, the University shall publicize them on its website.
    2. Candidates obtaining less than 30% marks in the descriptive part of the Entrance Test, wherever applicable, will not be shortlisted for interview/admission.
    3. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in the ObjectiveType/ Multiple Choice questions in all programs of the University except M.Phil/ Ph.D.
    4. The absence of a candidate in any component of the Entrance Test including WrittenTest, Group Discussion, Interview, as the case may be, shall forfeit his/her claim for admission in the said Program.
    5. No application/request from candidates for rechecking/re-evaluation of Answer Scripts of an Entrance Test shall be entertained.
    6. The number of seats mentioned in various Undergraduate and Postgraduate Programs is only indicative of the maximum in take capacity of each Program and does not bind the University to admit the number of students specified. The number of students finally admitted shall depend on the minimum benchmark of Program in the Entrance Test/Interview etc.
    7. No candidate shall be entitled to claim admission as a matter of right.
    8. Candidates are strongly advised to regularly check the University website ( , for admission related notices and other information. There is no provision of nomination on any seat by any authority of Jamia and no application / request shall be entertained in this regard.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    • Registration on the JMI Entrance Test Portal ( for online application process.
    • Select the course of your choice [check eligibility, dates of Entrance Test etc].
    • If you choose to apply for the selected course [do it after confirming your eligibility, etc], application form will appear on the screen. Fill up the details in the application form which will have following sections:
      1. Applicant Details
      2. Correspondence Address
      3. Your Preference City of Entrance Test Centre
      4. Upload scanned image file of your Photograph and Signature [as specified in para 1 above]
    • Final Review of details entered in the Application Form and if they are corrected then 'Confirm' the submission. Else, edit the details before confirming submission.
    • Fee Payment & application Submission
    • For subsequent applications (after the first course) (if applying more than one course) process of filling up 'Applicant Details', 'Correspondence Address and Parental Details', 'uploading of Photograph and Signature' and 'Preference of Test centre' will not be required. These details will be repeated automatically/ copied for all subsequent applications after the first application. If you choose to pay after selecting all the courses of your choice, a combined payment of Entrance Test Fee for all courses you have applied for can be done.

    1. An E-mail ID for registration and for receiving all future correspondence till the admission process is over and subsequently, if admitted.
    2. A Mobile Number to receive SMS based notifications/communications related to the online application, Admit card, Entrance Test Result, Admission Counseling etc till the admission process is over and subsequently, if admitted.
    3. Access to facilities of computer with internet connectivity.
    4. A recent scanned passport sized colour photograph (for scanning and uploading in "jpeg" format only. File size of scanned photograph should not be more than 100KB).
    5. Your scanned signature using Blue/Black pen on white sheet (for scanning and uploading in "jpeg" format only. File size of scanned photograph should not be more than 100KB).
    6. Access to an online payment facility / service such as
      1. Net Banking
      2. Credit card
      3. ATM-cum-Debit card

    If you do not have Net Banking facility/Credit Card or ATM-cum Debit Card, you can pay the fee in cash at any branch of State Bank of India through the Challan downloaded from the Entrance Test Portal. You will be able to download the duly filled up State Bank of India challan from the Entrance Test Portal only whne you select the "cash payment" option while filling the application form online.

    All applicants should note, that :

    1. No printout of online submitted application form or proof of payment of Entrance Test fee is to be submitted to the University. However, the candidates should retain a copy of the said documents for their own record. 

    2. No document is required to be submitted along with the application form submitted online.

    3. Original certificates issued by competent authority supporting your filled in details will be asked from you ONLY at the time of admission. If data provided in the online application is not supported by appropriate documents then your application / claim for admission shall be summarily rejected. 

    JMI Entrance Exam - (B.Ed.) - 2018 Syllabus

    The Test will consist of 3-parts:

    Part I - General Ability Test: The test will consist of 75 multiple choice questions covering the areas : General Intelligence, General Awareness and Teaching Aptitude (25 marks each)

    Part II - Language Proficiency Test (The test in this paper will cover contents up to class X level): A candidate has to take a language proficiency test in the language, he/she has opted as medium of instruction viz., English, Hindi or Urdu. The test will consist of 35 objective type (Multiple choice) items.

    Part III - Subject Comprehension Test (The test in this paper will cover content up to graduation level): A candidate has to take subject proficiency test in subject he/she has applied for. The test will consist of 60 multiple choice test items. Test for all subjects will be conducted in English, except for Urdu, Arabic, Persian (Test will be constructed in Urdu) and Hindi (Test will be constructed in Hindi).

    Admit Card:

    (i) Information on availability of Admit Card status shall be provided to candidates on their respective registered mobile numbers through SMS.

    (ii) Once Admit Card is available, a candidate should print it by logging into the Admission Portal on the link:

    (iii) After printing the Admit Card, a candidate is required to paste his / herself-attested passport size recent coloured photograph in the space provided. Candidate should follow the printed instructions on admit card.

    Conduct of Interview 

    Candidates short listed for interview and/or any other specified component of the test are required to bring their Admit Card issued for the Entrance Test and self-attested copies of the documents listed.

    Documents Required for Completion of Admission Formalities

    (i) Selected candidates must complete their admission formalities on or before the date notified as per the Admission Schedule provided in the Admission List. The result of the candidate should be complete in all respects on the day of admission.They are required to bring their Admit Card issued for the Entrance Test and attested copies of the following documents, along with the originals, at the time of admission.

    •  Proof of passing the qualifying examination together with the marks sheet in accordance with the eligibility requirements for admission as mentioned in this prospectus. 
    • Proof of age based on the certificate of High School/Secondary School or an equivalent examination.
    • Proof of entitlement for a particular reserved category issued by the competent authority.
    • Character Certificate from the institution last attended and migration certificate.
    • Certificate from an M.B.B.S. doctor or from a government hospital certifying blood group.
    • For BDS program, selected candidates shall have to submit a medical fitness certificate issued by Dr. M. A. Ansari Health Centre, JMI OR by a government hospital. 
    • Candidate has to bring Score card of JEE Mains 2018 and NEET-2018 for admission in B.Tech, B.Arch and BDS Programme respectively.

    In case an intervening /gap period is involved, the candidate has to submit a certificate/ Affidavit from Class1 Gazetted Officer / Notary Public for the entire intervening / gap period showing year-wise preoccupation and non-indulgence in any criminal activities after leaving the Institution last attended.

    Proof of permanent address as declared in the Application Form with the name of the nearest Police Station and the District.

    Experience and No Objection Certificates from the present employer(s).

    Self-employed candidates shall provide authentic evidence in support of their self employment.

    (ii) In case of programs for which the eligibility requirement is graduation (B.A./B.Sc./B.Com.etc.), a candidate whose result of the qualifying examination has not been declared may be considered for provisional admission subject to

    a) Submission of a certificate issued by the concerned College / University to the effect that he/she has appeared in the final semester / year of the concerned qualifying examination.

    b) Verification of transcripts / Markssheets for the period preceding the final semester / year of the qualifying examination to establish the minimum eligibility requirements of the program that he / she is clear in all the papers preceding final semester / year

    c) Submission of the first declared result of the qualifying examination for verification in the concerned Department / Faculty / Centre of JMI, latest by September 15, 2018.

    (iii) The original certificates will be returned after verification. However, JMI may retain the original transcript/ result of the qualifying examination for a period of TWO months from the start date of the session.

    (iv) Selected candidates will have to fill “Student Registration Form” (to be obtained from the concerned Dean’s Office/Department/Centre) giving full details about themselves. Wherever applicable, the candidates will also indicate their choice for courses they wish to opt for as subsidiary/optional.

    (v) Transfer Certificate/Migration Certificate in original with in 60 days from the date of admission must be submitted, failing which the admission of the student is liable to be cancelled.

    (vi) Classes shall commence as per the schedule notified in the Academic Calendar available on the University Website. However, classes of FIRST SEMESTER only of all programs of Session 2018- 19 shall commence from August 01, 2018.
