National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test (Prelims) Bachelor of Design 2021 or NID DAT (Prelims) B.Des. 2021 is the entrance examination for admission to B.Des., Dip. (Industrial Design), Dip. (Communication Design) and Dip. (Textile and Apparel Design). NID DAT (Prelims) B.Des. 2021 is conducted by National Institute of Design.

NID DAT (Prelims) B.Des. for the year 2021 has been announced by National Institute of Design and will be held on 14/03/2021. The application forms will be available from 08/01/2021 till 20/02/2021. The exam is in written mode. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. It is being conducted in English language. Admit card will be available from 04/03/2021. Result is expected to be announced on 18/06/2021.

Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

All candidates applying for the B.Des. must fulfill the eligibility criteria of both age and education qualification as under.

Educational Qualification:

Applications for academic year 2021—22 are open to candidates who have passed or will appear for higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2020—21 in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, etc.) from any recognised board of education such as CBSE, 1B, ICSE or equivalent.

Age Limit:

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category and General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC- NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 01st July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1996 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 2001 are eligible to apply for admission.

Examinations considered equivalent to these are as follows:

  • final examination of the 10+2 system under a Central or State Board recognized by the Association of Indian universities (AllJ, Refer http://www.aiu.ac.in).
  • Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination under a Board or University recognised by the Association of Indian universities.
  • Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
  • Senior Secondary School examination under the National Institute of Open Schooling, with a minimum of five subjects.
  • Any public school, Board, or University examination completed in India or in any foreign country recognized as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association of Indian universities.
  • H.S.C. vocational examination.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka.
  • AICTE-approved three-year Full-time Diploma after Class X offered by Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on http://www.aicte- india.org.
  • Candidates who have completed final examinations for class XII (or equivalent) outside India or from a Board not specified above should produce an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) confirming that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the Class XII examination conducted in India.     How to Apply

    Candidates will have to visit the official admissions website at ttps://admissions.nid.edu and follow the steps below:

    Step: 0

    Read and familiarise yourself with the eligibility criteria, number of seats, test centres, reservation policy and other relevant information related to admissions to the B.Des. programmes in Admissions Handbook 2021-22 and confirm that you have read and agreed the same.

    Note: The Design Aptitude Tests — DAT Prelims and DAT Mains—are common to candidates to all institutes, NID Ahmedabad, NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam.

    Step 1: Signup/Registration:

    • All the candidates are required to register/sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form. This is to be done only at https://admissions.nid.edu
    • Candidate must provide a valid email address and an active mobile number while registering, since the email address and mobile number will be used for all future communication with the candidate. Ensure that this email id and mobile number is active till 31 August 2021. Candidates are advised to check their email and SMS on a regular basis for any important communication made by the Admission Office via email id admissions@nid.edu or nid@applyadmission.net
    • After registration, login credentials will be sent via an email to the registered email address (do remember to check your spam or junk folders in case you do not find the email in your inbox). In case, the wrong email address and/or mobile number has been provided during signup, you are required to register afresh with the correct details.
    • Do not delete the email sent to you, as this will be useful for future reference.
    • Log in to your account using login credentials to proceed further.

    Step 2: Fill the Online Application Form:

    • Log in and proceed to Step 2—Application Form.
    • Fill in all the required details.
    • After filling all details, click 'Save & Proceed' to go to the next section 'Upload Document'.
    • Click 'Save & Exit' to complete the form at a later time or date.

    Step 3: Uploading your Documents and signature:

    • upload a color scanned copy of recent passport-size photograph as per the instructions. The photograph must be in JPG/JPEG format, should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 100 KB in size. It must be a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio. Photographs with self-composed portraits will not be accepted.
    • Upload your scanned signature as per the instructions. All signature files must be in JPG/JPEG format and should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 100 KB in size. You should have your signature digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size.
    • Candidates applying under the GEN-EWS category are required to upload their valid EWS Certificate issued by a competent authority, in the prescribed format as available on the website https://admissions.nid.edu, shall only be considered valid. The date Of issue Of EWS certificate must be 01 April 2020 or later based on the gross annual income Of the financial year 2019-20. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category are required to upload their valid OBC- NCL Certificate issued by a competent authority. The format of the OBC-NCL certificate should be as per the Central format (available on the website https://admissions.nid.edu in Download section). The date Of issue Of OBC-NCL certificate must be 01 April 2020 or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the SC and ST categories are required to upload their valid Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the Persons with Disability (PwD) category are required to upload their valid Disability Certificate issued by a competent medical authority as per the guidelines of the Government of India (format of which is available on the website https://admissions.nid.edu).The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and should be of minimum 75 KB and maximum 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the Overseas category are required to upload the first and last page of their valid passport in JPG/JPEG format, clearly showing all of their personal information. The certificate must be of minimum 75 KB & maximum 150 KB in size.
    • Click 'Save & Proceed' to go to the next section to pay Application Fees. Your Application Form will be accepted only after successful payment of the application fees
    • If you wish to complete the form later after uploading all the necessary documents, you can click 'Save and Exit'.

    Examination Day Instructions

    Before entering the Exam Centre:
    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.  
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Have a cookie or a chocolate just before entering the centre; this prevents hypoglycaemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
    • If it is a busy centre, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
    • Usually no bags are allowed.
    • No eatables are allowed.
    • No communication equipment such as mobile phones / pager/ wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic / digital gadget etc are allowed in the exam centre; carrying one will lead to disqualification.
    • Handbag / Carry bag/ Mobile phone / calculator /watch/any other electronic gadget or any paper (other than the Admit Card) shall not be allowed inside the Test Hall/Room and the University shall not be responsible for its safekeeping. If a candidate is found in possession of any such item during the Test, he/she would be deemed to have used unfair means and may lead to cancellation of his/her candidature.
    After entering the centre:
    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat. 
    • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
    • Misbehaviour of any kind can lead to expulsion of the candidate.
    • Caught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet/cancellation of the candidature.
    • Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to cancellation of the exam for that candidate.
