Xavier Aptitude Test 2020 or XAT 2020 is the entrance examination for admission to PGD (Business Management), PGD (Human Resources Management), PGD (Executive) (General Management) and FPM. XAT 2020 is conducted by XLRI - Xavier School of Management.

XAT for the year 2020 has been announced by XLRI - Xavier School of Management and will be held on 05/01/2020. The application forms will be available from 23/08/2019 till 10/12/2019. The exam is in online mode. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. It is being conducted in English language. Admit card will be available from 20/12/2019. Result is expected to be announced on 17/01/2020.

XAT 2020 Eligibility Criteria

  • Postgraduate Programmes In Business Management (BM) And Human Resource Management (HRM)

For BM and HRM programmes, students who have completed three years of Bachelors degree or equivalent in any discipline, recognized by a University or Deemed University, are eligible to apply. Those completing their final examination by June 10, 2020 may also apply.

  • PGDM (General Management) For Working Executives

Candidates applying for General Management Programme must hold a minimum of three years Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University in India/abroad in any discipline, be employed in a full - time job, must have at least five years of relevant managerial experience as on March 31, 2019 in an organization of repute in the public, private or non-governmental sector after completing graduation.

  • FPM

Applicants for FPM may choose ONE of the following options:

Option – 1 (XAT 2020)

Candidates with Post Graduation from Universities (MBA/Master's degree in any discipline India/Abroad) and Centres of Higher Learning with atleast 55% marks (50% for SC / ST candidates) with the Bachelors degree / equivalent qualification with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ST candidates) obtained after a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary education(10+2) or equivalent.


Five years / four years Integrated Masters Degree programme in any discipline, with atleast 55% marks (50% for SC/ST candidates), obtained after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.


BE / B.Tech degree or its equivalent with at least 60% marks (50%for SC/ST candidates) with 2 years of relevant work experience


A professional qualification like CA, ICWA or CS with atleast 55% marks (50% for SC / ST candidates).

may choose to appear in the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) 2020 to be conducted all over India on Sunday January 05, 2020.

Option - 2 (UGC JRF / NET; GMAT / GRE / GATE)

Candidates with any of the above qualification (as stated in Option – 1) may submit UGC JRF/NET; GMAT/GRE/GATE results/scores taken during the last two years. Such candidates will be exempted from appearing in XAT.

Option - 3 (MBA / PGDM candidates)

Candidates who have done their PGP from XLRI, any IIMs, FMS Delhi, MDI Gurgaon, XIM Bhubaneswar, IRMA, SP Jain, School of Management of IITs, TIFR, TISS, ISI and other comparable Institutes with a CQPI of at least 6.00/8.00 or equivalent will be exempted from appearing in the XAT.

Short listed candidates will be required to appear for personal interview at XLRI Jamshedpur for final selection.

    The duration of the test will be of three hours from 9 : 30 A.M. to 12 : 30 P.M.

    Selection Criteria

    A candidate may apply for multiple programmes. Those who apply for more than one programme may be called for multiple interviews and / or group discussions. The selection criteria for different programmes may differ depending on the nature of the programme. XAT online test will have different components and you need to maximise your performance in each of them. In its pursuit of academic excellence, XLRI actively encourages the students from diverse backgrounds to apply. While preparing the short-listed candidates for the interview, in addition to XAT performance, we may factor in academic background and the relevant work experience. Besides performance in the personal interviews (and / or group discussions), we also consider XAT performance, relevant work experience, academic background, extracurricular activities while preparing the final list.

    Application Form Fee

    • Without late fee – Rs. 1700/- Candidates interested in XLRI programmes needs to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300/- each. 
    • With late fee – Rs. 2000/- Candidates interested in XLRI programmes needs to pay an additional fee of Rs. 500/- each.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    • In case the candidate is unable to complete the application form in one go, he / she can save the data already entered by choosing "SAVE AND NEXT" tab. Prior to submission of the online application candidates are advised to use the "SAVE AND NEXT" facility to verify the details in the online application form and modify the same if required. Visually Impaired candidates should fill the application form carefully and Verify / get the details verified to ensure that the same are correct prior to final submission.
    • Candidates are advised to carefully fill and verify the details filled in the online application themselves as no change will be possible/ entertained after clicking the FINAL SUBMIT BUTTON.
    • Name of the candidate or his /her Father’s name/ Mother’s name etc. should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the Certificates/ Mark sheets/Identity proof. Any change/alteration found may disqualify the candidature.
    • Candidates can proceed to Scan and upload Photo & Signature as per the specifications given in the Guidelines.
    • Candidates can proceed to fill Academic and Work experience details of the Application Form.
    • Click on the Preview Tab to preview and verify the entire application form before FINAL SUBMIT.
    • Modify details, if required, and click on 'SUBMIT' ONLY after verifying and ensuring that the photograph, signature uploaded and other details filled by you are correct.'Applicant details can not be edited once the application form is submitted after payment.'
    • Select XLRI programme as per your preference if you want to study in XLRI. (Through XAT or Through GMAT)
    • Select the XAT Test City preference. Candidates can choose 2 preferred test cities while filling XAT Application form. Candidates are advised to choose test city closer to their city of residence. However, the final authority to allot the TEST CITY rests with authority. (You can edit the test city preference only once before November 30, 2019.)
    • Click on 'Payment' Tab and proceed for payment.

    Online Mode

    The application form is integrated with the payment gateway and the payment process can be completed by following the instructions.

    • The payment can be made by using Debit Cards (RuPay / Visa / Master Card / Maestro), Credit Cards, Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets.
    • On successful completion of the transaction, an e-Receipt will be generated..Non-generation of 'E-Receipt' indicates PAYMENT FAILURE. On failure of payment, Candidates are advised to login again using their Provisional XAT ID and Password and repeat the process of payment.
    • Candidates are required to take a printout of the e-Receipt and online Application Form. Please note that if the same cannot be generated, online transaction may not have been successful.
    • For Card charges are listed in Indian Rupee. If you use a non-Indian credit card, your bank will convert to your local currency based on prevailing exchange rates.
    • To ensure the security of your data, please close the browser window once your transaction is completed. There is facility to download/print application form containing fee details after payment of fees.

    Before applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of his / her photograph and signature as per the specifications given below.

    • Photograph must be a recent passport size colour picture.
    • The picture should be in colour, against a light-coloured, preferably white, background.
    • Look straight at the camera with a relaxed face.
    • If the picture is taken on a sunny day, have the sun behind you, or place yourself in the shade, so that you are not squinting and there are no harsh shadows.
    • If you have to use flash, ensure there's no "red-eye".
    • If you wear glasses make sure that there are no reflections and your eyes can be clearly seen.
    • Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed but it must not cover your face.
    • Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred).
    • Size of file should be between 20kb-50kb.
    • Ensure that the size of the scanned image is not more than 50KB. If the size of the file is more than 50KB, then adjust the settings of the scanner such as the DPI resolution, no. of colours etc., during the process of scanning.
    • The applicant has to sign on white paper with Black Ink pen.
    • The signature must be signed only by the applicant and not by any other person.
    • The Signature will be used to put on the ADMIT CARD and wherever necessary.
    • The Applicant’s signature obtained on the ADMIT CARD and attendance sheet at the time of the examination should match the uploaded signature. In case of mismatch, the candidate may be disqualified.
    • Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred).
    • Size of file should be between 10kb —20kb.
    • Ensure that the size of the scanned image is not more than 20KB.


      If the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed. While filling in the Online Application Form the candidate will be provided with a link to upload his photograph and signature. Procedure for Uploading the Photograph and Signature

      Set the scanner resolution to a minimum of 200 dpi (dots per inch).

      Set Color to True Color

      Crop the image in the scanner to the edge of the photograph/signature, then use the upload editor to crop the image to the final size (as specified above).

      The image file should be JPG or JPEG format. An example file name is: image01.jpg or image01.jpeg Image dimensions can be checked by listing the folder files or moving the mouse over the file image icon. Candidates using MS Windows/MS Office can easily obtain photo and signature in .jpeg format not exceeding 50KB & 20KB respectively by using MS Paint or MS Office Picture Manager. Scanned photograph and signature in any format can be saved in .jpg format by using 'Save As' option in the File menu and size can be reduced below 50KB (photograph) & 20KB (signature) by using crop and then resize option.

        • There will be two separate links for uploading Photograph and Signature.
        • Click on the respective link "Upload Photograph / Signature".
        • Browse & Select the location where the Scanned Photo/ Signature file has been saved.
        • Select the file by clicking on it.
        • Click the 'Upload' button

        Applicants should note that registration for XAT 2020 is the preliminary step towards applying to XLRI and XAT Associate Institutes. Applicants applying to XAT Associate Institutes, besides XLRI have to apply separately according to their choice. Applicants for XAT 2019 can choose to pay online using credit card / debit card / online banking.

        • Once you complete filling the Basic Information a system generated XAT ID and password will be communicated to you through Email / SMS.
        • Please quote your email (provided during the registration) and XAT ID for all future communication
