The results for NEET 2024 will be announced soon. Then the students will apply for counselling process to get admission for MBBS. There are currently 541 medical colleges with a capacity of 80,312 MBBS seats in India. The number of medical colleges in India has increased by around 45 per cent in the last few years. In 2014, India had 381 medical colleges in the country. The number of medical seats has increased from 54,348 in 2014 to 80,312 in 2020. 115 more colleges have been approved, and will be functional soon.
Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will carry out counselling for admission to 15 percent of All India Quota seats, all private deemed/central colleges MBBS seats, ESIC and AFMC institutes, AIIMS institutes as well as JIPMER colleges The whole counselling procedure will be on-line and once the seat is assigned, the student will go to the assigned university or college for admission. The unoccupied seats after 2nd counselling will be allocated back to the state quota.
Each state will holds its very own counselling process and schedules will be announced after the outcomes of the NEET UG results. These counselling is held by one of the university or college or Board or Commission as decided by the state Government. Most of the procedure is online. Each state will have its very own set of guidelines and rules. However the NEET Merit List will be followed for each category.
The entire process usuallt takes almost 2 to 3 months after the results are announced. This year the process may be completed in lesser span of time because of the delayed admission process due to covid pandemic.
