Don’t Give Up: 7 Things to Do If You Couldn’t Score Well in CBSE Board Exams

Life is full of ups and downs. We face many situations that seem very difficult and we often think this the end and there is no way to make the situation better. There are times when everything seems to get harder and our hard work also does not pay off the way we wanted it.

But every student needs to remember one thing that this is not the end. There is always a ray of hope, a scope to make the situation better. And as everyone says that everything in this world happens for a situation. We only have to think of a way out to mold the situation for our own favor.

There comes a time after the board exam when many students face a situation where the results are not satisfying and they face many accusations from their family members. This point is the toughest and the lowest time but a student needs to have the faith and confidence in themselves.

Students must not get disheartened by the situation. They need to remind themselves one thing that there are a lot of opportunities that can change their lives forever. In this article, we will be discussing some steps to get over the situation and shape your career on the right track.

1.   Think about the options and sort them out:

When the circumstance is not ideal and getting very hard to handle, the first thing a student should do is calm down and take a deep breath to think further. Having a hazard going on in the mind is obvious, but overthinking will only make the situation even worse.

After having a moment to calm down, the student must evaluate their situation very thoroughly. Why did this failure come? The student must think what was the reason behind this tragic score. It may be the lack of preparation or the lack of enthusiasm to study.

If you evaluate properly the exact reason behind this grave situation, you can take further decisions keeping these things in mind. And to choose any stream for further studies will be easier and more planned.

2.   Go for courses having an entrance exam:

Many courses do not consider the high percentage. What they consider is the rank of a student in the entrance exam they conduct. The marks obtained in the final exam just work an eligibility criteria nothing more than that.

So, if a student has a percentage between 55% to 75%, they will also get a chance to redeem themselves and get a chance in a college based on the entrance exam. Students can easily make their future better by opting for subjects like – Engineering, Management, Design, Journalism and Mass Communication, Hotel Management, Law, etc. Even some institutes conduct entrance exams for English, Bengali, Geography, etc.

One of the best parts of entrance exams is that the subjects are not descriptive all the time. They are more based on multiple-choice questions and this is a great way to score. Because a student does not have to worry about their writing skills, they have to just remember details of the subject.

And when after all the accusations they are getting a chance to prove themselves, they must give their 100% effort and time to this exam. This will definitely prove a lot of things to a lot of people who were previously pointing a figure at the failure of the student. Getting a chance in a recognized institute will definitely be the best possible way to gain faith in yourself as well as the faith of your parents.

3.   Research about all lesser-known colleges deeply:

Most students make a mistake running behind only some well-known colleges they might not get a chance in. But always remember there are a lot of colleges that might not be known widely but the education level of those colleges is very appreciable. The misconception that only the well-known colleges provide the best education is totally wrong.

The colleges that are a bit lesser-known also have a range of excellent faculties. And the best part is that these colleges do not demand a very high percentage from the students. This can be really beneficial for the students who have scored a bit lower than the others.

So, if you are one of the students having a percentage lower than the others, research these colleges deeply. What courses they provide, what is the cut-off they demand, who are the faculties – these are must aspects to research about.

Do not think that nobody knows about this college or something like this, because at the end of the day your score of graduation will matter not the name of the institute. Also, if the colleges are located in different cities or states, do not hesitate to opt for them as well. This is the time that a student must explore the world by not limiting their options.

4.   Reappearing next year can be an option too:

It may sound wrong or irrational for the first time but this option should be considered by a student as well. Because if you see after evaluating the situation that there is a scope of betterment in your preparations, you can always choose this option.

The improvement paper is similar to the board’s exam. There is just a slight difference between the two. That is when a student is appearing for an improvement paper, they will be appearing as a private candidate, not from an affiliated school of the CBSE board. A student has to reappear for all 5 or 6 subjects to get a new and fresh result given from the CBSE board.

This mark sheet will be the same as the regular mark sheet. So, the student must not worry about the mark sheet. But there is a very important thing to think over before deciding about the improvement paper. If a student thinks that the subjects chosen for their 12th is not ideal for them, they should avoid this process. As this only wastes another year.

But if a student is determined to reappear, they must prepare themselves well this time at least from six months before the examination.

5.   Find out new career options:

When we get stuck in a situation like this, there is always a chance of exploring life differently without getting bound in a stereotypical system. Having this mindset will have a positive impact on the student dealing with so many emotions.

But when you want to do something “off a bit”, you must do wide research about that field. Because this will help to convince your parents. There are a lot of fields that do not consider high marks and only require passion and interest - graphic design, ethical hacking, fashion styling/image consulting, content writing, blogging, social media management, app development, film-making, etc. – these fields are very fluid having a wide range of career options.

To start something new a student has to start working on their skills, creativity, etc. When you get knowledge about these types of courses that include your personal interests, do not overthink about joining just join it. Also, doing internships or jobs or going to different clubs related to these will be very helpful.

6.   Consider private institutes:

Students should always consider the private institutions if their marks of CBSE final exams are not very high. Because these institutions offer admission even in a low percentage. The quality of education provided here is also very good. But before opting for any of these institutions a student must take note of some vital points like – the faculty, authenticity, their curriculum, scope of placement after the degree, etc.

These points will help the students to make a decision. Keep one thing in mind that the institute of under graduation does not matter much. What matters is the marks that a student has scored. And prepare yourself so well that you can go to the institute you wanted for the post graduation program. Also, during your UG start doing internships or part-time jobs as much as possible to build a standard profile.

7.   Be confident with your decision:

The last tip to always be confident with whatever decision you take. If you are not confident enough with your own decision, you can never achieve what you have dreamt for. It is fine to be nervous because what has happened in the final exams was not a very suitable thing. But a student has to keep that confidence and faith in themselves to conquer the difficulties.

And when you gain confidence in yourself, you can convince your parents easily as well. So, always try to assess your decisions wisely by researching every little detail.

As we have said that a mark sheet does not define the whole career, a student must remember one thing that only hard work will pay off in the future. It is fine to fail once but do not let that affect you deeply. You should prepare yourself for the bigger world.
