Education Budget Increased In the 2026 Union Budget
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a total allocation of ₹1,39,289 crore for the Ministry of Education. That’s an increase of a little over ₹10,000 crore from last year’s ₹1,28,650 crore. However, this time there were no announcements about new IITs or an increase in seats for medical or engineering programs. Even though there was speculation about the launch of another IIT, it didn’t make it to the final budget this year.
What Students Have Received Boost for Creative Careers
One of the most exciting parts of this year’s budget is the focus on the “Orange Economy,” which highlights creative and digital professions. The government plans to train 20 lakh students and professionals in content creation skills by 2030 — a big step towards preparing youth for the growing digital industry. Setting Up Content Creation Labs To make this possible, the government will establish Content Creation Labs in 15,000 senior secondary schools and 500 colleges across India. These labs, being set up in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Creative Technology, will provide hands-on training to students interested in areas like video production, design, animation, and digital marketing. It’s a move that blends education with creativity and opens new career paths for young learners.
