Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test 2021 or TANCET 2021 is the entrance examination for admission to MCA, MBA, M.E., M.Tech., M.Arch. and other courses. TANCET 2021 is conducted by Anna University, Chennai.

TANCET for the year 2021 has been announced by Anna University, Chennai and will be held from 20/03/2021 to 21/03/2021. The application forms will be available from 19/01/2021 till 16/02/2021. The exam is in written mode. Admit card will be available from 05/03/2021. Result is expected to be announced on 02/04/2021.

Educational Qualifications: The Minimum Academic Qualifications for TANCET 2021 required.


A pass in a recognised Bachelor’s Degree of minimum 3 years
duration and obtained at least 50% (45% in the case of
candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying
degree examination

  • 10 + 2 + 3 / 4 /5 years pattern 
  • 10 + 3 years Diploma +3 years pattern 
  • B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Arch. / B.Pharm.
  • (10 + 2 + AMIE
  • 10 + 3 years diploma (awarded by the State Board of Technical Education) + AMIE

A pass in a recognised Bachelor's Degree of minimum 3 years
duration in B.C.A. or B.Sc. (Information Technology / Computer
Science or equivalent), or a pass in a recognized Bachelor’s
degree of minimum 3 years duration (in disciplines other than the
ones mentioned above) with Mathematics at 10 + 2 level or at
Graduation Level and obtained at least 50 % (45 % in the case
of candidates belonging to reserved category) in the qualifying
degree examinations.

  • Master’s Degree in the relevant branch of Science / Arts, which are prescribed

    Candidates have to pay 600/- ( 300/- for SC /SCA /ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) towards the entrance test fee for any one of the programmes either 1. M.B.A. (or) 2. M.C.A. (or) 3.M.E/M.Tech./M.Arch./M.Plan. degree programme.  

    Candidate registering for more than one programme has to pay 600/- ( 300/- for SC/SCA/ST candidates belonging to Tamil Nadu) for each additional programme through online only. 

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    Steps to be followed for Registration:

    • Click the TANCET Registration link.
    • Click the Register Button
    • Provide the required information and press Submit button.
    • Now, it directs to payment page. Make payment online. Follow the instructions. Those who wish to avail fee concession under SC/ST/SCA categories from TAMIL NADU, must upload your community certificate, which are subject to scrutiny; and if found wrong, the application will be rejected. Those who do not have the required certificate can opt for skip option while uploading community certificate, and in that case the candidate has to make full payment.
    • On successful payment, it directs to pages related to other relevant details required for the examination. Follow the instructions and enter the details.
    • At the end, it asks for the confirmation of the details provided. Now, verify the details and confirm.
    • On confirming the details, it directs to a page where you can take printout of your application. Take printout of the application for your reference.
    • The registration is successfully completed only if you are able to take the printout of your application. Otherwise, check the status of your application and proceed as instructed.

    Important Note:

    • Providing wrong information in the application may lead to disqualifying the candidate from TANCET 2021.
    • Remember your registered email, registered mobile number and the password till downloding the score card.
    • Do not make separate registration if you wish to include your name for the additional examination after your first registration. In such cases, the candidate is advised to use the Status Check & Additional Examination link, so that new examination detail will be added to the already registered application. For instance, if the candidate already registered for MCA and later wish to add ME/MBA, the additional course link is to be used. If you have added any examination particulars, you are advised to take a printout of the application again using status check link.
    • You can obtain TANCET 2020 question booklet from the Centre for Entrance Examinations at the cost of Rs.25/- (by DD or cash) per booklet. Those who wish to get the question booklet by post, contact the centre through phone.

    Documents and Particulars required for Registration:

    • Valid email-ID and mobile number. Provide only your currently used email and mobile number, as this office communicates only through email/mobile.
    • Tenth Registration/Roll Number and Year of Passing.
    • Twelth Registration/Roll Number and Year of Passing.
    • Diploma Registration/Roll Number and Year of Passing, if you are a diploma holder.
    • A passport photo of good quality in jpg format.
    • Copy of community certificate in pdf format, for those who belong to SC/ST/SCA.
    • Image of your signature in jpg format.
    • Particulars required for online payment.

    TANCET 2021 Syllabus

    Syllabi and Evaluation Scheme

    Course Syllabi 

    The question paper will have the following sections:

    • Evaluate the candidate’s ability to identify critically the data  and apply the data to business decisions from given typical business situations. 
    • Evaluate the skill of the candidate in answering questions  based on the passages in the comprehension.
    • Evaluate the skill on solving mathematical problems at  graduate level including those learnt in plus two or equivalent level.
    • Test on determining data sufficiency for answering certain  questions using the given data and the knowledge of mathematics and use of day-to-day facts
    • Test the knowledge on written English with questions on  errors in usage, grammar, punctuation, etc.


    The question paper will have the following sections:

    • Quantitative ability
    • Analytical reasoning
    • Logical reasoning
    • Computer awareness 

    A few questions may also be on verbal activity, basic science, etc


    The question paper will have three parts.

    Part-I and Part-II are compulsory and under Part-III the candidates  have to answer the section which has been chosen at the time of registration. If a candidate appears for different section, Part – III will not be evaluated.

    Examination Day Instructions

    Before entering the Exam Centre:

    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Have a cookie or a chocolate just before entering the centre; this prevents hypoglycaemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
    • If it is a busy centre, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
    • Usually no bags are allowed.
    • No eatables are allowed.
    • No communication equipment such as mobile phones / pager/ wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic / digital gadget etc are allowed in the exam centre; carrying one will lead to disqualification.
    • Handbag / Carry bag/ Mobile phone / calculator /watch/any other electronic gadget or any paper (other than the Admit Card) shall not be allowed inside the Test Hall/Room and the University shall not be responsible for its safekeeping. If a candidate is found in possession of any such item during the Test, he/she would be deemed to have used unfair means and may lead to cancellation of his/her candidature.

    After entering the centre:

    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat.
    • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
    • Misbehaviour of any kind can lead to expulsion of the candidate.
    • Caught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet/cancellation of the candidature.
    • Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to cancellation of the exam for that candidate.

    More Information

    Hall Ticket should be produced at the time of Entrance Test and also at the time of Admission. If the hall ticket is lost after the test, a duplicate hall ticket can be obtained on payment of 100/- in the form of a Demand Draft, with a written request to The Secretary (TANCET), Anna University, Chennai – 600 025 indicating the Registration No. / Application No. and the name of the Examination Centre.
