TIFR GS 2021 Exam - Dates, Registration, Eligibility, Syllabus, Exam Pattern

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Graduate School Admissions 2021 or TIFR GS 2021 is the entrance examination for admission to M.Sc. - Ph.D. (Mathematics), M.Sc. - Ph.D. (Physics) (Integrated), M.Sc. - Ph.D. (Chemistry), M.Sc.- Ph.D. (Biology) (Integrated), M.Sc.- Ph.D. (Computer and Systems Sciences) (Integrated) and other courses. TIFR GS 2021 is conducted by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai.

TIFR GS for the year 2021 has been announced by Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai and will be held on 07/03/2021. The application forms will be available from 04/01/2021 till 01/02/2021. The exam is in online mode. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. It is being conducted in English language. The result date will be announced later.

TIFR GS 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications:

The Minimum Academic Qualifications for TIFR GS 2021 required are that students should have passed or are appearing in class

Mathematics:

  • For Ph.D. : M.A./M.Sc./M.Math./M.Stat./M.E./M.Tech.
  • For I-Ph.D. : B.A./B.Sc./B.Math./B.Stat./B.E./B.Tech. (Students already having/completing an M.Sc. degree by July 2021 are not eligible for I-Ph.D.).

Physics:

  •   For Ph.D.: M.Sc./M.S. in Physics, or equivalent degree, on completion of programmes(s) of duration not less than 5 years in total. 
  • For I-Ph.D.: M.E./M.Tech./B.Sc./B.S./B.E./B.Tech./ B.Chem. in Physics, Engineering Physics, or equivalent degree, on completion of programme(s) of duration not less than 3 years in total. Any other degree in Science / Engineering / Medicine, or equivalent, on completion of programme(s) of duration not less than 3 years in total.

Chemistry:

  •   For Ph.D.: M.Sc./B.E./B.Tech./M.Pharm. or equivalent degree. 
  • For I-Ph.D.: B.Sc./B.Pharm./B.S. degree or equivalent degree.
  • Candidates with B.E./B.Tech, enrolled in the Ph.D. programme can optionally get an M.Sc. degree by fulfilling additional requirements.

Biology:

  •   Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on written test marks, CV, letters of recommendation and Scientific write-up. 
  • For Ph.D.: Masters in Basic Science (M.Sc. Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ any branch of Biology) or any professional Master's Degree (M.Pharma./M.Tech.), or a > 4 year degree program (e.g. MBBS, BDS). Students holding an M.Sc. degree in a non-Biology-allied discipline such as Chemistry / Physics / Mathematics / Computer Science, and who wish to obtain an M.Sc. in Biology, will be offered the option of enrolling in the I-Ph.D. programme at the time of joining.
  • For I-Ph.D./M.Sc.: Bachelors in any Basic Science (Physics/ Chemistry/Mathematics/any branch of Biology) OR any 4-year degree programme that awards a "Bachelor's degree" including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B.Pharma. (4 year course).

Computer & Systems Sciences:

  • For Ph.D. : B.Tech./B.E./B.Sc.(4-year degree)/M.Tech./M.E./M.C.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in Computer Science / Electronics & Communications Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related branches. Exceptionally well qualified students with B.Tech./ B.E./B.Sc. (4-year degree)/M.Tech./M.E./M.Sc. degrees in other disciplines may also be considered.
  • Exceptionally well qualified students with a three year degree in related subjects may be considered for I-Ph.D.
  • For I-Ph.D. : B.Sc. (3-year degree) or any other 3-year degree in Computer Scinece / Electronics & Communications Engineering / Electrical Engineering or related branches. Exceptionally well-qualified students with a 3-year undergraduate degree (B.Sc.) in related subjects may be considered for the I-Ph.D. programme. Candidates in the I-Ph.D. programme will need to fulfil the requirements for both an M.Sc. and Ph.D.; upon successful completion, they will receive both degrees.

    Test Centre Details

    • The information of the Test centre allocated is provided along with admit card.
    • It includes the address of the centre.
    • One should locate the centre on Google Maps.
    • It is a good practice and strongly advised to visit the centre one day before to know about the time taken to reach the centre. By doing so one can reach well in time on the examination day. It prevents wastage of time trying to locate the centre and thus avoids the stress created if the centre is not easy to find.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    Students applying for the TIFR GS 2021 have to fill up the application form on the official site.

    A student can submit the application for only once; multiple forms will be rejected.

    Requirements to be readied before you start filling up the Application Form of TIFR GS 2021

    • PC or a Laptop with Internet connectivity
    • Qualification details
    • Functional e-mail Id as all communication are made through email; Parents email id is recommended.
    • For online payments, usually a valid debit or credit card as well as Net Banking facility, UPI or PAYTM Service is a must.

    The Usual Steps in filling up the Online Application Form:

    Step-1: Students have to register for Online Application Form. A login and Password are created.

    Step-2: Student has to Complete the Application Form and its various sections.

    Step-3: Required documents in the form of Scanned Images of Candidate’s Photograph, Candidate’s Signature and Left Thumb Impression.

    Step-4: Payments have to be made by Debit / Credit Card / Net Banking / UPI / PAYTM

    TIFR GS 2021 Exam Day Instructions

    Online Dates

    Examination Day Instructions

    Preparation for the Exam Day
    • The Admit card should be downloaded and printed Immediately.
    • A few copies of the Admit Card should be kept in reserve as these are also used at the time of admission and counselling.
    • Photo to be fixed on the admit card, if required
    • Documents to be taken to the Exam centre should be kept ready.
    • Copy of the photo may be required to be taken to the Test Centre.
    • Stationary related articles as mentioned should be kept ready.
    • Dress related details will also be provided in the prospectus as well as with the admit card and should be followed.
    • Items not to be taken to the Exam centre or barred should be noted.
    Before entering the Exam Centre
    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.

    After entering the centre

    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat.
    • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
    • No candidate shall be allowed to leave the examination hall/room before the expiry of half of the time allotted for the respective paper.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
