NEET UG 2026: Exam Date, Pattern, Syllabus and Key Highlights

Are you planning to sit for NEET-UG 2026, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test? Conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the National Medical Commission (NMC), the test is a single national-level entrance examination. When you crack it, you can get admission to undergraduate medical courses in India. 

You can consider it as an entrance exam for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other similar programs across the nation. It is regarded as mandatory for admission to BAMS, BHMS, MBBS, BDS, B.Sc. Nursing (Military Nursing Service), BVSc & AH, BSMS, and BUMS courses.

NEET UG 2026 Exam Date

The tentative date for this exam is May 3, 2026. It is supposed to be held on that day, possibly from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST. The exam will have a total duration of 3 hours (180 minutes).

The application submission deadline is March 8, 2026, up to 9:00 p.m. The admit cards will be released in April 2026. The results are supposed to be declared by June 2026. Those who pass the exam will have to attend the counselling process that will begin in July.

NEET UG 2026 Exam Pattern and Structure

Aspirants can expect several changes to the NEET UG exam pattern this year. Many changes have been made to the exam pattern recently. 

There will be as many as 180 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) this year, with four options and one correct answer. The pattern is supposed to be like this:

·       Physics - 45 multiple-choice questions for 180 marks, 

·       Chemistry - 45 multiple-choice questions for 180 marks, and 

·       Biology (Botany & Zoology combined) - 90 multiple-choice questions for 360 marks

In total, there will be 180 questions carrying 720 marks. For each correct answer, you will get +4. Every incorrect answer will lead to a deduction of 1 mark for you. 

The exam will be held in 13 languages in total, including:

·       Assamese, 

·       Bengali, 

·       English, 

·       Gujarati, 

·       Hindi, 

·       Kannada, 

·       Malayalam, 

·       Marathi, 

·       Odia, 

·       Punjabi, 

·       Tamil, 

·       Telugu, and 

·       Urdu

You have to choose a language that matches your linguistic background. 

This is an offline exam, and you will have to use pen and paper while answering the questions. All questions are MCQs. You have to answer these on a compulsory basis. There are no optional questions.

NEET UG 2026 Exam Syllabus

The NEET UG 2026 syllabus aligns with the NCERT curriculum. You can get a complete idea about the updated syllabus when you check the official resource. 

Solve PYQ (previous-year question papers) and mock test papers to prepare yourself well for the exam. It is also essential to focus on core concepts from Classes 11 and 12. Topics from both CBSE and state boards will be covered to cover all the key medical entrance subjects thoroughly.

NEET UG 2026: Key Highlights

·       You only have to use a black and blue ballpoint pen, provided at the exam centre, to mark the NEET UG 2026 OMR sheet

·       Mark answers with care and avoids easing or overwriting, as it may lead to your disqualification

·       Fill all the answer bubbles properly, and take care that you leave no stray marks

·       While giving your answers, make sure that the answer you mark corresponds to the right question number

·       Follow all the instructions of your invigilator for properly filling out the OMR

·       Do not damage or fold the OMR sheet, as the sheet may be rejected in case of any tampering.

·       Before you submit the OMR sheet, check it thoroughly and revise enough to confirm that you have marked all the answers in a proper manner

·       You have to check the official NEET website regularly to get the latest updates about the exam. Avoid checking other resources that might contain misinformation about the examination. 

·       Applications for the exam will only be accepted in an online mode. Your application must be submitted well ahead of March 8, 2026, the last date for applications. 

·       The application correction window is from March 10 – March 12, 2026.

According to government regulations, without a valid NEET score, you cannot gain admission to any medical institution in India.
