New Zealand Student Visa for Indian Students

 

New Zealand is a developed country known for its picturesque, civil liberties, and economic freedom. It has mesmerizing places, from stunning beaches to inactive volcanoes. It has become one of the popular study destinations for Indian youngsters due to its globally recognized education, diverse study options, safety, and quality of lifestyle. The country has a unique supportive vibe for foreigners; students from all over the world choose New Zealand as a destination for their higher studies.

 

The most common courses opted for by the Indian students are related to science and innovation. New Zealand has numerous brilliant universities offering a wide range of courses, qualified faculties, unique teaching methods, study, and job opportunities. Wellington, Auckland, and Hamilton are popular among Indians. Common subjects chosen by Indian students in New Zealand are IT, computer science, engineering, medicine, health care, agriculture, arts and design, animation, hospitality, business studies, business management, etc.

 

Basic eligibility to apply in universities of New Zealand; as most of the courses are available in English, the students are required to have a valid IELTS test score, and some courses may require a particular specialization in the subject of experience (depending upon the institution). Other than this, GRE and GMAT TOEFL scores are accepted along with your 12th diploma, graduate, or postgraduate certificates.

 

New Zealand Visa

To pursue any course for less than three months, international students are exempted from applying for visas they are eligible to travel with. If any international students plan to pursue studies for more than three months, they must apply for a New Zealand student visa. 

 

Here is a list of visa requirements for Indian students:

  • An acceptance letter from the university is mandatory and authorized by the New Zealand qualification committee to apply for a visa. (it should be registered under the ministry of education of New Zealand).
  • This offer letter must include the duration, fees and type of course.
  • Indian students below 18 years must submit their accommodation proof with a guaranteed person (from the institute) stating accommodation details.
  • Proof of financial expenses is required that shows you have sufficient funds to stay and complete your education course.
  • It is mandatory to show at least eight lacs per annum for Indian students to stay there.
  • It is mandatory to maintain the balance of NZD 1250 per month.
  • The visa application processing time may take up to 8-10 weeks (depending upon the number of applicants applied).

 

How to apply for New Zealand Visa

Application Fee

  • Students applying for visas online must pay NZD 330 + 747 INR approx. at receiving centres.
  • Students applying for a visa via post must pay NZD330 +955INR at the receiving centre.
  • The student is advised to visit the official site and check the recent details before applying in any of the suggested modes.

 

Documents required

  • A valid passport in which validity must exceed after three months of your completion of the course.
  • Completion of student visa form
  • Receipt of the application form
  • An acceptance/offer letter from the university/institution with tuition fees for the course
  • A letter from your previous institution stating your status to study abroad
  • A receipt of your health insurance
  • Two or more passport-size photos
  • Character certificates to prove genuine intention to stay in New Zealand for the time being

 

Work hours allowed

A New Zealand student visa allows 20 hours of work per week if your course duration is at least two years (as a part-timer) and full-time work on holidays.

 

Additional information

  • Indian students need to show their health insurance for the time being in New Zealand during the visa application process.
  • Health insurance can be by the public healthcare system or private healthcare system.
  • If a student wants to stay after completing the course for job purposes, they may apply for a post-study work visa.
  • If you are planning to take your family with you, in that case: your spouse and children will be given a dependent visa for the same duration as the course.
  • Spouses of the student can work full-time on the work visa. Still, the dependents of the student's visa are not allowed to work.
  • The New Zealand government offers various scholarship programs for international students.
