BHU Exams to Be Open Book Type

After the recommendation of the academic council, the Banaras Hindu University will take up steps to help reduce stress in current exams. The terminal semester exams will be conducted as an online OBE or Open Book Examination.

The system will allow the candidates to take the examination remotely and without any restrictions on their consulting books for writing answers. Rajesh Singh, a BHU spokesperson stated that the registrar office has issued the notice regarding the exam and will also soon release the timetable for the same.

The notification announces that the question paper will have 8 questions, of which any four will need to be answered. It will be of 70 marks and each question will carry 17.5 marks. The question papers are currently being framed for the students.

The duration of the exam would be four hours for all students except PWD students who would be given six hours for the same. This time includes the time to download the question paper from the portal, writing them, and uploading the scanned copy of the answer sheet on the portal.

Other internal assessments such as practicals and projects would need to be submitted in the same way, along with a demonstration via Skype Video Call. He said that students will also be given chances to clear backlogs in the same system.

As for the students failing in the current exams or failing to appear for it, they will be given another chance to clear it in November with the same system of examination. The criteria for unfair means in the exams has also been revised for the new system.
