The National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill got the
Presidential assent on 8th August 2019, facilitating way for extensive reform
of medical education and the long-awaited replacement of Medical Council of
India with a new regulator National Medical Commission (NMC). Health Minister
Harsh Vardhan told that the NMC would be set up in six months and the proposed
national exit test would be rolled out in three years.
“The final year MBBS exam will serve as the National Exit
Test under the new NMC law. It will
serve three purposes — licensiate exam for MBBS passouts; PG entrance; and
entrance test for foreign medical graduates. Exit test will be objective type,”
as briefed by Mr.Harsh Vardhan.
