Bench Led by CJI Surya Kant Issues Show-Cause Notice
This incident came to light after the Supreme Court reprimanded NCERT for a chapter discussing "corruption" and "pending works" in the judiciary. Subsequently, the Supreme Court issued a show-cause notice to the NCERT Director and the Secretary of School Education, asking them to explain why action should not be taken against them for the controversial textbook content. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi ordered that all copies of the books, whether in stores or in storage, be confiscated and removed from public reach. The books were subsequently withdrawn, and NCERT publicly apologized.
