As per new guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC), now College admissions will be based on US-style common entrance test not on the basis of Class 12 marks.
Guidelines are summarized below in 5 points:
1. College admissions will now depend on the common entrance test only and not on Class 12 board exam results. Class 12 pass is eligible.
2. Other than the common test, universities can fix a minimum score for Class 12 for admissions
3. The test will be computer-based and will contain multiple choice questions similar to America's SAT exams. Test centres will be located across all India and the testing authority will be National Testing Agency.
4. This will be applicable to centrally-run universities like Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
5. The Common Entrance Test for the current year will be scheduled for the first week of July. The registration process will begin in April and the exam will be held online.
