CAT exam is one of the most prestigious and most sought after MBA exams in India. 2.5 lakh candidates appeared for the CAT exam to get an opportunity to study in top MBA colleges like IIMs in India. As MBA result are declared IIMs has started the selection process for students applying for postgraduate management degrees.
CAT Selection Process: MBA Admission
The screening methodology is described on the website of each IIM. It will use CAT scores to list the applicants. Group Discussion (GD), Written Aptitude Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) are part of the CAT selection process.
Admission process in IIM after CAT
The CAT selection process for IIMs consists of three rounds:
- Round 1: IIM Shortlist and CAT Result
- Round 2: PI Round – In this round, candidates have to appear for personal interview.
- Round 3: Selection and Verification of Candidates
Round 1: Declaration of results and IIM shortlisting
IIM CAT, the exam conducting body, will be the first to declare the result. The shortlist dates will be made public by the IIMs. IIMs will publish their own CAT cutoffs for certain categories.
The list of candidates selected for the next stage of selection will be made available on the websites of the respective IIMs. Invitation for interview will be sent directly to all selected candidates.

Round 2: PI Round
Written Aptitude Test (WAT), Personal Interview (PI) and Group Discussion (GD) are the next stages of the IIM selection process for all the students who meet the cutoff. General knowledge, communication skills, performance in previous rounds and mental alertness are taken into consideration in evaluating the candidates.
Round 3: Selection and Verification of Candidacy
Every applicant selected for personal interview at IIM have to satisfy the eligibility and verification requirements of the final selection process of CAT.
Candidates will now be graded according to their academic success.
Selection Process after CAT: Documents Required
During the selection process, which also includes personal interview, candidates will be required to submit original and attested copies of their certificates. If selected, the original degree mark sheets of each semester, along with attested copies, will have to be submitted at the time of admission.
