Joint Entrance Examination Main (July) 2020 or JEE Main (July) 2020 is the entrance examination for admission to B.E., B.Tech., B.Arch. and Bachelor of Planning. JEE Main (July) 2020 is conducted by National Testing Agency.

JEE Main (July) for the year 2020 has been announced by National Testing Agency and will be held from 01/09/2020 to 06/09/2020. The application forms will be available from 07/02/2020 till 24/05/2020. The exam is in online mode. The duration of the exam will be 180 minutes. It is being conducted in English, Hindi and Gujrati languages. Admit card will be available from 15/08/2020. Result is expected to be announced on 11/09/2020.

Eligibility for appearing in JEE (Main) 2020

 Age Limit

For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the For appearing in the JEE (Main) examination there is no age limit for the candidates. The candidates who have passed class 12th / equivalent examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 2020 irrespective of their age can  appear in JEE (Main) examination – 2020. The candidates should also satisfy themselves about their fulfilling the age limit requirements of the Institutes in which they are desirous of taking admission. The candidates must note that the IITs have an age limit/restriction, which will be published in JEE(Advanced)-2020 Information Brochure.

Year of Appearance in Qualifying Examination (QE)

Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2018 or 2019; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Examination or any equivalent a qualifying examination in 2020 are eligible to appear in January JEE (Main) 2020 Examination.

Candidates who passed Class 12th/Qualifying examination in 2017 or before as well as those who will appear in such examination in 2021 or later are not eligible to appear in JEE (Main) 2020. Candidates must note that the IITs permit only two attempts for the JEE (Advanced), i.e. a candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2019 or 2020, subject to the condition of not having been admitted at an IIT on earlier occasion. Details may be obtained from the  Information Brochure of the JEE (Advanced) 2020. 


For admission to a participating institute, please see the reservations applicable in that particular institute. In case of institutes run by Central Government,10% of the seats are reserved for Category General-Economically Weaker Section(GEN-EWS), 15% of the seats are reserved for the category Scheduled Caste (SC), 7.5% for the category Scheduled Tribe (ST) and 27% for the category Other Backward Classes belonging to the “ Non Creamy layer” (OBC-NCL). Each category will have 5% reservations for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) as defined in The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act 2016).

Other Backward Classes - Non-Creamy Layer (OBC–NCL) are as per the Central list of Other Backward Classes available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website Thus, the candidates falling in this list may mention OBC in the Category Column. State list OBC Candidates who are not in OBC-NCL (Central List) must choose General.

    Candidates have to apply for January JEE (Main)- 2020 “Online” ONLY by accessing the official websites.The Application Form other than online mode would not be accepted, in any case. Only one application is to be submitted by a candidate. More than one application i.e. Multiple application forms submitted by a candidate will be rejected.

    It is suggested that you have the following ready before starting the filling of the online application form:

    • A computer with good Internet connectivity
    • All your qualification details
    • Scanned clear passport photograph in JPG / JPEG format (size between 10 kb–200 kb)
    • Scanned clear signature in JPG / JPEG format (size between 4 kb–30 kb)
    • A valid e-mail Id as all communication will be made on this e-mail Id
    • A valid mobile number as all information via SMS will be sent to this number
    • A valid debit/credit card or Net banking account or UPI or PAYTM Service
    • A printer connected to your system to print confirmation page
    • download information Bulletin. Read it carefully to ensure your eligibility and acquaint with the requirements for submission of Online Application Form.
    • No correction can be made at a later stage after submission of an application. No change will be accepted through Post/Fax/ email / By Hand etc.

    Important Instructions:

    1. The final submission of online Application form will remain incomplete if all the steps are not completed. Such forms will stand rejected and no correspondence on this account will be entertained.
    2. No request for refund of fee once remitted by the candidate will be entertained
    3. The entire application process of January JEE (Main) –2020 is online, including uploading of scanned images, Payment of Fees and Printing of Confirmation page. Therefore, candidates are not required to send/submit any document(s) including Confirmation page to NTA through Post/Fax/email/ By Hand.
    4. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the NTA’s website regularly for latest updates and to check their registered mobile for SMS/e-mails.
    5. The NTA can make use of the data generated for the purpose of research and analysis.
    6. The replica of January JEE(Main)-2020 Examination is attached as Annexure V
    7. The candidates appearing for N.D.A. & N.A. Examination (I), 2020 is conducted by UPSC on 6 September 2020 are informed to also update as 'YES', in their Online Application Form, during the correction period so that there is no clash of their schedule of JEE (Main) with N.D.A. & N.A. Examination m. 2020.

    Guidelines to Candidates for Computer Based Test

    • Candidates MUST bring the following documents on the day of examination at the test centre. Candidates who  will not bring these will not be allowed to sit in the examination.
      • Print copy of Admit Card downloaded from NTA’s website
      • One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) should be taken for pasting on the specific space in the attendance sheet at Centre during the examination.
      • Any one of the authorized photo IDs (must be original, valid and non-expired) – PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/E-Aadhaar with photograph/ Ration Card with photograph/ 12th Class Board Admit Card with photograph/ Bank Passbook with Photograph.
      • PwD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category
    • The candidates shall report at the Examination Centre two hours before the commencement of the examination so as to complete the frisking and registration formalities well before the time. Registration desk will be closed 30 minutes prior to the examination.
    • Candidates shall not be permitted to enter in the Examination Hall/Room after 9:00 a.m. in first shift and after 2:00 p.m. in second shift. The candidates are advised to read the instructions on the admit card carefully and follow them during the conduct of the examination.
    • The candidate must show, on demand, the Admit Card downloaded/printed from the NTA’s website and any of the authorized photo IDs for entry in the examination room/hall. A candidate who does not possess the valid Admit Card and authorized photo IDs shall not be permitted for the examination under any circumstances by the Centre Superintendent.
    • A seat indicating roll number will be allocated to each candidate. Candidates should find and sit on their allocated seat only. Any candidate found to have changed room/hall or the seat on his/her own other than allotted, his/her candidature shall be cancelled and no plea would be accepted for it.
    • No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre Superintendent or the Invigilator concerned, will leave his/her seat or Examination Room/Hall until the full duration of the paper is over. Candidates must follow the instructions strictly as instructed by the Centre Superintendent/Invigilators. Candidates should not leave the room/hall without handing over their rough sheets to the invigilator on duty in the Room/Hall.

    For those who are unable to appear on the scheduled date of tests for any reason, the NTA shall not be responsible for conduct of re-test, under any circumstances.

    • Candidate may please note that admit cards will not be sent by post.
    • In no case, the duplicate Admit Card for JEE (Main)-2020 would be issued at the Examination Centres. 
    • Candidate must not mutilate the Admit Card or change any entry made therein. 
    • Candidates are advised to preserve their Admit Cards in good condition for future reference
    • No Admit Card shall be issued to the candidates whose Applications are found to be incomplete for any reasons (including indistinct / doubtful photographs / unsigned Applications) or who do not fulfill the eligibility criteria for the examination
    • Issue of Admit Cards, however, shall not necessarily mean acceptance of eligibility which shall be further scrutinized at subsequent stages of admission process.
    • The Admit Card, this time, has four pages including the “Important Instructions for Candidates” given on Page-2 and “Advisory for Candidates regarding COVID-19” on Pages 3 and 4. The candidates are advised to download all the four pages and read them very carefully in view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19. They are also advised to follow the instructions and the advisory in letter and spirit. On the day of the Examination, the candidate has to also bring to the exam centre, the undertaking given on the Admit Card at Page-1 (duly filled in, except his/her signature which he/she will be required to do in the presence of Invigilator). This Undertaking is in addition to the one filled online at the time of downloading the Admit Card.

    JEE (Main) NTA Score for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning

    • After the January JEE (Main)-2020 examinations, the NTA will display provisional Answer Keys & Question Paper attempted by the candidate on the NTA’s Offical websites. The date shall be displayed on the NTA’s website for the same.
    • The challenge of provisional answer keys will be accepted online only through the link available on the official websites on payment of a processing fee of Rs.1000/- per question. The fee can be paid by credit/debit card/Net banking/UPI/PAYTM service. The fee once paid is non-refundable. The NTA’s decision on the challenges shall be final and no further communication will be entertained. The subject experts will examine all the challenges received and then a final answer key will be displayed and declared. The result will be compiled on the basis of this final answer key declared. No grievance with regard to answer key(s) after the declaration of result of January JEE (Main)- 2020 will be entertained.
    • Evaluation of multiple-choice questions of B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Planning will be carried out using final answer keys and the raw (actual) marks obtained by a candidate will be considered further for computation of the result of January JEE (Main)-2020.
    • For multi-shift papers, raw marks obtained by the candidates in different shifts/sessions will be converted to NTA Score.

    Compilation and display of Result of B.E./B.Tech

    • Compilation and display of Result for January session: Since, January JEE (Main)-2020 B.E./B.Tech first attempt will be conducted in multi-shifts, NTA scores will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate. The calculated NTA scores for all the shifts/sessions will be declared by 31st January 2020. This shall comprise of the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry) and the total in B.E./B.Tech of January JEE (Main)–2020.

    Compilation and display of Result of B.Arch and B.Planning

    Compilation and display of Result for January 2020: Since, January JEE (Main)-2020 B.Arch and B.Planning will be conducted in multi-shifts, the raw marks obtained by all the candidates who appeared will be converted into NTA score and declared by 31st January, 2020. This shall comprise of four NTA scores for each of the three parts (Mathematics, Aptitude Test, Drawing Test or Planning Based Test) and total in B.Arch/B.Planning of January JEE(Main)-2020.


    • All participating institutes that do not use the Centralized Seat Allocation Process will prepare their  own ranking based on the performance in JEE (Main)-2020 and other criteria as decided by them.
    • Only the All India Rank (AIR) is used for admissions through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)/Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) to NITs/ IIITs/ CFTIs/ SFIs/ Others. 
    • No score/rank card will be dispatched to the candidates and the candidates are advised to download their score/rank cards from the JEE (Main) official website only.
    • The All India Rank shall be compiled and declared after conduct of July JEE(Main)-2020 Examination.

    There shall be no provision for re-valuation/re-checking of the Score. No correspondence in this regard shall be entertained. 

    The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an examination conducting body and not an admission giving authority. Therefore, NTA does not collect the information regarding total number of seats available in the institutions, or the eligibility and reservation criteria followed by the institutions.
