    Students applying for the JMI Entrance Exam M.Tech. (Computational Mathematics.) 2020 have to fill up the application form on the official site.

    Candidates are not allowed to make any correction at a later stage after submission of an application. O correction is entertained via post, fax, email or by hand.

    Sequences and Series of Real Numbers: Sequence of real numbers, convergence of sequences, bounded and monotone sequences, convergence criteria for sequences of real numbers, Cauchy sequences, subsequences, Bolzano-Weierstrass theorem ,Series of real numbers, absolute convergence, tests of convergence for series of positive terms , comparison test, ratio test, root test; Leibniz test for convergence of alternating serie

    Functions of One and Several Variables: Limit, continuity, partial derivatives, differentiability, intermediate value property, Rolle's Theorem, Mean-value theorem, L'-Hospital rule, Taylor's theorem, maxima and minima.

    Integral Calculus: Integration as the inverse process of differentiation, definite integrals and their properties, fundamental theorem of calculus, double and triple integrals, change of variables and change of order of integration.

    Differential Equations: Ordinary differential equations of the first order, Bernoulli‘s equation, exact differential equations, integrating factor, orthogonal trajectories, homogeneous differential equations, linear differential equations of second order with constant coefficients, method of separation of variables, method of variation of parameters, Cauchy-Euler equation.

    Vector Calculus and Linear Algebra: Scalar and vector fields, gradient, divergence, curl, line integrals, surface integrals, Green, Stokes and Gauss theorems, Rank and inverse of a matrix, determinant, solutions of systems of linear equations, consistency conditions, eigen-values and eigenvectors for matrices, Cayley-Hamilton theorem, Finite dimensional vector spaces, linear dependence and independence of vectors, basis, dimension, linear transformations, range space, null space, rank-nullity theorem.

    Fundamental of Computers Basics of Computers: generation of computers, binary, decimal numbers and conversion from binary to decimal and vice versa; Programming in C: data types, arrays, functions, pointers and structures; Data Structure: linked list, stack, queue, tree, searching and sorting algorithm.

    Numerical Analysis: Numerical solution of algebraic and transcendental equations: bisection method, secant method, Newton-Raphson method, fixed point iteration method; Interpolation: Lagrange interpolation, Newton backward & forward interpolations; numerical differentiation; numerical integration: Trapezoidal and Simpson 1/3 & 3/8 rules; numerical solution of systems of linear equations: direct methods (Gauss elimination, LU decomposition); iterative methods (Jacobi and Gauss-Seidel); numerical solution of ordinary differential equations.

    Probability and Statistics: Sample space, Bayes theorem, independent variable, random variables, joint and conditional probability, standard probability distributions and their properties (Binomial, Poisson, Normal, Geometric, Negative binomial, Exponential, Gamma, Continuous uniform, Bivariate normal, Multinomial), expectation, conditional expectation, moments; Weak and strong law of large numbers, central limit theorem; Testing of hypotheses, standard parametric tests based on normal, distributions; Simple linear regression.

    Operation Research :  Linear programming problem and its formulation, convex sets and their properties, graphical method, basic feasible solution; infeasible and unbounded LPP’s, balanced and unbalanced transportation problems; Hungarian method for solving assignment problems.

    Thermodynamics and Statistical Physics Laws of thermodynamics : Macrostates and microstates; phase space; ensembles; partition function, free energy, calculation of thermodynamic quantities; classical and quantum statistics; degenerate Fermi gas; black body radiation and Planck’s distribution law; Bose‐Einstein condensation; first and second order phase transitions, phase equilibrium, critical point.

    Basic Electronics Diodes; Bipolar Junction Transistors, Field Effect Transistors, amplifier and oscillator circuits; operational amplifier, active filters and oscillators; rectifier circuits, regulated power supplies; digital logic circuits, flip-flops , combinational circuits, sequential circuits, counters, registers, A/D and D/A conversion.

    Preparation for the Exam Day

    • The Admit card should be downloaded and printed immediately.
    • A few copies of the Admit Card should be kept in reserve as these are also used at the time of admission and counselling.
    • Photo to be fixed on the admit card, if required.

    • Copy of the photo may be required to be taken to the Test Centre
    • Stationary related articles as mentioned should be kept ready.
    • Dress related details will also be provided in
    • the prospectus as well as with the admit card and should be followed. 
    • Items not to be taken to the Exam centre or barred should be noted.

    Before entering the Exam Centre

    • Try to reach the exam centre one hour prior to the time advised in the admit card.
    • Before leaving for the site, please have a hearty breakfast or light lunch depending on the session. Drink plenty of fluids; as in summers dehydration can set in affecting your performance in the exam.
    • Have a cookie or a chocolate just before entering the centre; this prevents hypoglycaemia and thus helps you stay alert longer improving your results.
    • If it is a busy centre, then don’t wait till last for the entry and security check.
    • Centre will not allow you to enter after the stipulated time of closing the doors.
    • Admission to the Exam Centre is with the Admit Card; no candidates shall be admitted to the test without the production of the Admit Card at the Test Centre.
    • Usually no bags are allowed.
    • No eatables are allowed.
    • No communication equipment such as mobile phones / pager/ wireless set, scanner, camera or any such electronic / digital gadget etc are allowed in the exam centre; carrying one will lead to disqualification.
    • Handbag / Carry bag/ Mobile phone / calculator /watch/any other electronic gadget or any paper (other than the Admit Card) shall not be allowed inside the Test Hall/Room and the University shall not be responsible for its safekeeping. If a candidate is found in possession of any such item during the Test, he/she would be deemed to have used unfair means and may lead to cancellation of his/her candidature.

    After entering the centre

    • Once candidates enter the centre, they should locate their designated hall and seat.
    • If mentioned, candidates will be hand frisked as well as photographed or video graphed before entering the centre
    • After all the formalities, candidates should enter the allotted hall and take the designated seat.
    • For Objective Type question papers, rough work is to be done in the space provided for this purpose. No rough work is allowed on the OMR Answer Sheet under any situation.
    • Questions have to be answered on the answer sheet only.
    • Copying, use of unfair means of any kind, talking, asking questions from other candidates or borrowing of material inside the Test Centre is strictly prohibited.
    • The candidates are to return their OMR answer-sheets and the question paper in full to the Centre Superintendent. Tearing or taking away of the question paper is not allowed failing which the candidates shall be disqualified from the entire Entrance Test.
    • Smoking is a not allowed.
    • Misbehaviour of any kind can lead to expulsion of the candidate.
    • Caught copying helping in copying will mean cancellation of the answer sheet/cancellation of the candidature.
    • Marking the answer sheet or question paper in any way will also lead to cancellation of the exam for that candidate.
