AFMC MBBS Admission Process 2023

 

It’s not ONLY NEET, which is required for admission to AFMC, Pune


Armed Forces Medical College is one of the top Medical Institute of India. It is also called AFMC. It is located in Pune, Maharashtra. AFMC is managed by the Indian Defence services. It was established in 1948. The college trains under-graduate and postgraduate medical and nursing students who after training get an assured job in the Indian Defence Services. 


AFMC has more than 275 faculty members. AFMC has 145 seats for MBBS admissions every year.

Requirements for getting into Armed Forces Medical College


Qualifying in NEET is one the requirements for getting admission to MBBS program at AFMC Pune. However, it is not the sole requirement to gain admission. Candidates after qualifying in NEET also have to clear ToELR, Psychological Assessment Test and the Interview.

Thus it is necessary for a candidate to qualify in NEET to become eligible for admission to MBBS/BDS programs.

 

Eligibility criteria for AFMC MBBS admissions

  • Must be an Indian National.
  • Must have completed 17 years as or on December 31 of the year of admission.
  • Must have passed 12th class (10+2) or equivalent exam in the first attempt.
  • Must have subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as compulsory subjects
  • Must have secured not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in the 3 science subjects taken together. 
  • Must have passed the class Mathematics exam in class 10th.
  • Must have secured at least 60% marks as aggregate in Class 12th.
  • Must be single and should not be married at the time of admission; cannot marry during the course.

Please note the differences in eligibility criteria for admission to AFMC as compared to eligibility criteria for other Medical Colleges of India. These differences are marked with a BOLD font.

 

Outline of MBBS admission process for AFMC MBBS 


MBBS admission at AFMC for 145 MBBS seats is conducted in two stages.


Stage 1 

  • Students are shortlisted for ToELR. This is done on the basis of NEET scores. 
  • ToELR stands for Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning specially conducted for MBBS admissions at AFMC, Pune.
  • The candidates take the Test of English Language, Comprehension, Logic and Reasoning. 
  • The ToELR is an online test; it consists of 40 MCQs, which are to be attempted in 30 minutes. 
  • Each question is of 4 marks and 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect response. 

 

Stage 2

This stage involves taking the psychometric test and being interviewed. 

A total of 50 marks are allocated. 

Total score obtained in both stages are added up.


Final Stage

A final Merit List is made and students are called for admission to AFMC

The verification of documents is conducted at the time of admission.

 

Reservation of seats for AFMC MBBS Admission


There is reservation for admission to AFMC according to:


115 seats are allocated for boys.

30 seats are for girl candidates.

10 seats are for SC and ST


Thus for admission to MBBS seats at AFMC, one has to qualify in NEET 2023. Once qualified, one has to compete in another test and interview. Then only a final merit list is made. Just qualification in NEET does not insure a MBBS seat at AFMC.
