All about LLB and LLM from JMI in India

Jamia Millia Islamia- established in 1920, became centralised in 1988. The faculties like humanities and language, education, social science, engineering and technology, university computer centre and in 1989 the faculty of the law were added. These faculties have a number of research centres that offer various UG and PG courses. Jamia has the campus network for the campus connecting all the departments and the offices.

Doctoral Programme (Ph.D. in law)

Master’s Programmes- LLM (regular)/ LLM (self -finance). LLM (executive) self- financed programme

Postgraduates’ diploma programs- PG Diploma in Labour Law, PG Diploma in Air Space Law.

Undergraduate programs - BA LLB (Hons), BA LLB (Hons.) (Self-financed)


LLB

Number of seats- 60

Eligibility- aspirants must have 50% in the 12th/ 10+2 or equivalent.

Selection- on the merit basis- entrance exam score followed by the interview.

Fees- 10,700 for the first year.


LLM 

Number of seats- 30, LLM corporate Law- 10 seats, LLM Criminal Law- 10 seats, LLM Personal Law- 10 seats

Eligibility- minimum of 505 in the LLM degree

Selection- is completely based on the merit and entrance exam followed by the interview.

LLM (executive) is the part-time course offered by the institution on weekends to practising lawyers.

Fee- 8,700 for the first year.


The institution also offers a 5 years integrated course for BA LLB. The course is offered under the self-finance category. The eligibility requirement is- 50% in the 12th standard or equivalent in any stream.  A separate entrance exam is also conducted by the institution- JMI. The admission will be based on the merit scores of the academics and performance in the entrance test followed by the interview. The minimum criteria set by the university are 30% marks in each section.


The faculty of law

For the past two decades, Jamia institution has offered many law-related programs and has produced the best lawyers for the country. The institution has emerged from where it started to a significant position. The institution focused on academic knowledge, experimenting with techniques in legal education. This innovation initiative has helped students to explore and learn in a unique way.

The institution has replaced a three-year graduation course with an integrated course of 5 years in post-graduate programs. It also has established a legal services clinic with a legal agenda. The students flourished with lots of opportunities to learn in the moon courts, in client counselling, and in several debating activities. With the academics of the law, other curricular and co-curricular abilities are enhanced for both teaching staff and students. Overall personality is developed within the duration of the course; students are prepared to face all kinds of challenges with confidence and appropriate knowledge and skills.

The speakers from India and from another country: have been given a platform to share their experiences with students. These extended lectures, seminars and the practising the moon court, national seminars, conferences, national law reform competition are held by the institution

The institution is almost a century old and the faculty of law was established 2 decades ago. This time period has produced so many popular alumni for the nation. The students are guided by the most experienced and deserved alumni of the college. Life-long experience with excellence and diversity of the global platforms are at the doorsteps for the students. This social interaction with the alumni can help the new generation a lot to move forward and learn from the professionals. These alumni not only guide their juniors but also fund their research or project and institution too. This is modern growth and development.

The students of the faculty of law have been working with prestigious authorities – in various law firms, the army, IAS, NGOs, first corporate, lawyers, judges. Students pursuing their degrees are also given the opportunity to work and learn in the summer internships programs. It has been providing the best legal education with excellence.

Admission/application process

  • Candidates are required to visit the official site of JMI, the faculty of law.
  • Click on the new registration and fill in the details,
  • New login credentials with id and password will be sent to the registered number and id.
  • Use those credentials to login and carefully fill the application form
  • After completing the form, fee payment is needed to be one via online/offline mode.
  • Application for UG-700.
  • Application for the PG course- 1500.
