Engineering Admissions 2019 – A few thoughts

In the current competitive world, engineering aspirants must understand choosing the right college is always a cumbersome task for every student and the parents. it is crucial that students are not influenced by just the physical façade but should look for the potential in the institution.

Is Engineering Your Passion ?

It is common trend in India to pursue engineering just for its mass appeal and peer pressure. There was a time when securing a government job was the goal of everyone. One needs to ensure that they really want to be an engineer before taking the admission. The alarming rise in the number of dropouts from engineering courses highlights the confused mindset of the youth. Thus, one should not be a sheep that follows the herd; find your inner calling to become an engineer.

How reliable is the placement policy?

100% Placement  is being used by every institution today to attract more students. Even the most prestigious institutes in India can’t claim to offer 100% placements. According to Linked Institutes 2018 report published by the AICTE and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), 22% of the engineering colleges have no collaborations with the industry and hence the curriculum is not industry oriented. So, before getting admission in a college, one must do a thorough study of the college’s industry tie-ups and placements offered.

Scholarships and financial aid

Engineering is usually one of the costliest college degrees. In India, there are scholarships available for students not just limited to the meritorious students but are also extended to certain caste groups and students living below the poverty line.

Students should have a holistic approach

There are many cities in the country which have become famous only because of the countless IIT coaching institutes settled there. On the other side, these cities are also becoming infamous for increasing depression and suicidal tendencies among students. With so many options available, students should not feel disheartened on being rejected by an institution. Choosing the engineering college is important decision for one’s career, but it alone does not decide your future. Try to look beyond the IITs and NITs.
