Indian Institutes Of Technology - IIT In India

The INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY(IITs) are the very best level of autonomous public technical and research universities located everywhere in India. Each IITs is linked to the other IIT through a typical council which oversees their administration. There are 23 IITs across the nation, as of 2020 the total number of seats for undergraduate programs in all IITs is 16,053. The major requirement to admit to these institutes at undergraduate program and postgraduate level is to pass the JEE ADVANCED and GATE respectively.

The IITS have the higher grants in comparison to the other engineering colleges in India. Government funding to most other engineering colleges is around Rs.100-200 million per annum.

The total amount varies between Rs. 900-1300 million per year for each IIT. The student faculty ratio in IITs is between 1:6 and 1:8. The IITs subsidise undergraduate student fees by approximately 80% and supply scholarships to all or any Master of Technology students and Research Scholars so as to encourage students for higher studies, as per the recommendations of the Thacker committee. All the IITs follow the credits system of performance Evaluation with proportion weighting in fact supported their importance. The total marks form the idea of grades, with a grade value assigned to a variety of marks. For each semester the students are graded on a scale of 1 to 10 based on their performance, by taking a weighted average of the grade points from all the courses, with their respective credit points.

UNDERGRADUATE COURSES

Most of the students get enrolled in the IIT for the bachelor of technology (BTECH) degree and it is the most common degree which students get enrolled in. The first year of BTech and Dual Degree courses are marked by a common course for all the students through in some IITs a single department introduction related course is also included. At the end of the first year an option to change department is given to meritorious students on the basis of their performance in the first two semesters. From the second year onward, the students study the subjects of their respective department. In the last year of their study, most of the scholars are placed into industries and organizations via the location process of the respective IIT, though some students opt out of this either when going for higher studies or when they up jobs by applying to the companies directly.

POSTGRADUATE AND DOCTORAL COURSE

The IITs offer a number of postgraduate courses including Master of Technology (MTech), Master of Administration (MBA) and Master of Science (MSc). Some of the IITS offer special programs like Master of design(M.Des), the Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (PGDIT), Master in Medicine Science and Technology (MMST) Master of Arts (MA) and Postgraduate Diploma in Maritime Operation and Management (PGDMOM). Some IITs have school of management offering master's degrees in management or business administration. In April 2015, IIT BOMBAY launched the primary U.S. India joint EMBA program alongside WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY in St. Louis. The IITs alongside NITs and IISc accounts for nearly 80% of all engineering PHDs in India. IITs now give admission in PhD programs without any valid  gate score.
