Starting from session 2020-21, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry and 15 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will admit students in MBBS/BDS through NEET-UG. As of now, like other Institutes of National Importance (INI), AIIMS and JIPMER Pudducherry are governed by a separate Act of Parliament by which they can conduct a national-level entrance examination for the courses they offer. The process has already been initiated to notify fee regulations with effect from the year 2020-21.
According to Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, the process of implementing the National Medical Commission (NMC) will be done in the most transparent manner. The NMC will also frame guidelines for determination of the fees and all other charges for 50% seats in private medical colleges and deemed universities. As a result, seats in such colleges would be available at a reasonable price.
