CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam 2026 Date Revised: Applications Open, Students Raise Concerns Over Delay

CBSE Class 12 Compartment Exam 2026 has been rescheduled to July 28. Check eligibility, application process, fees, important dates, and student concerns over the revised exam schedule.

CBSE Revises Class 12 Compartment Exam Schedule

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the schedule for the Class 12 compartment exams. The application process for the compartment exams has also begun. According to the schedule announced by the CBSE, the date of the Class 12 compartment exam has been changed. The compartment exam will be held on 28 July. Previously, the CBSE had proposed the compartment exam for 15 July. The CBSE has launched the application portal. Students can apply for the compartment exam till 8 July. However, students are upset about the change in the compartment exam date.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for the Compartment Exam?

Only selected students can apply for the CBSE Class 12 compartment exam. The CBSE has already established the categories for these selected students. According to the instructions issued by the CBSE, students who sat the Class 12 exams this year can take the compartment exam to improve their marks in one subject. Meanwhile, students who have failed one subject can also apply for the compartment exam to pass. In addition, students with a compartment from 2025 can also apply for the compartment exam; this will be their third and final opportunity.

Applications via the Sangam Portal until 8th July

The CBSE has instructed schools to submit a Letter of Concern (LOC) for the Class 12 compartment exam. A deadline of 8th June has been set for this. The LOC can be submitted until 11:59 p.m. on 8th July. However, students can also apply on an individual basis.

What is the fee for the compartment exam?

As for the prescribed fee for the compartment exam, it is set at ₹300 for students in India. For students in Nepal, the fee is ₹1,100, and for students from countries outside India, it is ₹2,200. Visually impaired students are exempt from the examination fee.

Student Concerns Over Delayed Result Declaration

According to the schedule previously issued by the CBSE, the compartment exam was scheduled for 15th July, but the schedule has now been changed. The compartment exam will be held on 28th July. This has increased the students' anxieties. The students claim that if the compartment exam is held on 28th July, its results will only be released by August. By August, other admission processes, including university admissions, will  conclude. In such a situation, the compartment exam serves no purpose. The students have demanded grace marks.
