In an attempt to meet the severe shortage of speciality doctors in Haryana, eight civil hospitals in the state have applied to National Board of Examinations(NBE) so as to start Diplomate of National Board or DNB course in different specialities.
DNB is a three year course just like MD/MS but it is offered by non teaching institutes like private hospitals or civil hospitals. The eligibility criteria are that the candidate must have done MBBS from a recognised medical college and should have qualified the NEET PG exam. The NBE is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Health and it awards the DNB degree.
NBE is in the process of accrediting the various government and private hospitals for DNB course. The eight civil hospitals that have applied are based at- Ambala, Bahadurgarh, Faridabad, Gurugram, Hisar, Kaithal, Panchkula and Sonepat.
Although the government plans to double the postgraduate seats in the next five years but this move will certainly come as a breather as along with providing medical education it will also provide better healthcare facilities.
