Eligibility Criteria To DM, MCh Courses Changed

The MCI through its gazette has amended a few feeder qualifications for two Doctor of Medicine (DM) and four Master of Chirugie (MCh) courses in India.

The amended requirements in the previous medical regulations are effective from 1st April, 2019. Many qualifications which were required for admission into DM and MCh courses, previously are made redundant.

The changes are as follows-

1) DM(Medical Oncology): Previously, the candidates with MD( Medicine), MD( Paediatrics) and MS( Radiotherapy) could sit for the DM(Medical Oncology) entrance test. But now this qualification has been changed to MD(Radiation oncology) and MD( General Medicine)

2) DM(Interventional Radiology): The previous qualification was MD(Radiology) which has been changed to to MD(Radio diagnosis).

3) MCh(Head and Neck Surgery): The feeder qualifications to this course was MS(General Surgery), MS(ENT), MCh(Surgical Oncology), MCh(Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery) or MCh(Neuro surgery). This qualification has been reduced to MS(General Surgery) or MS(ENT).

4) MCh(Surgical Oncology):Now the feeder qualification is MS(General Surgery). The prior requirements were MD(Obst. & Gynae), MS(Surgery), MS(ENT) or MS(Orthopaedics).

These changes may be welcomed by a few medical students but may not be liked by others.
