Government of India is ready to bring in Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). HECI will replace AICTE and University Grant Commission. The bill will be introduced before the cabinet in October.
The AICTE will be took over by the proposed Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), which will replace the UGC, as per the officials of the HRD Ministry. HRD Ministry had announced last year its decision to replace the University Grants Commission (UGC) by revocation of the UGC Act, 1951. Draft of the bill was also put in the public domain and suggestions & feedback were sought from the stakeholders. "The HECI will be created by revocation of the UGC Act,1951 and AICTE Act,1987,” the official said.
