The University Grants Commission has provided for various fellowship schemes and continues to do that to support the education of people from Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe, minorities such as Christian, Sikhs, and Muslim students.
Now it’s finally some relief schemes for the OBC students. For the first time, the University grants commission has come up with a fellowship scheme for other backward castes- OBC candidates. It will be made available for students willing to pursue M.phil and Ph.D. subjects including social science, arts, technology, and engineering are eligible for the scholarship.
To avail of the scholarship, the candidates have to fulfill 2 criteria i.e. their family annual income should be less than Six Lakhs and they should have not received the Junior Research Fellowship - JRF scholarship under UGC and science and industrial ministry.
The bifurcation of the scholarship goes as follow:
The University Grants Commission has decided to provide scholarships for 300 students, out of these 300, 3% will be given to OBC and differently-abled students. The student should be selected on a merit basis and should meet both the above-mentioned criteria. The selected student can get Rupees 25,000 per month for over 2 years. Besides these Arts students can avail themselves over 10,000 INR and science, technology, and engineering, students will get 12,000 INR as contingency expenses.
After 2 years the candidate will get 28,000 INR for up to 3 years and those students who can avail contingency amount as per eligibility can avail that amount.
