Let The “Non-Masculine” Scientist Grow Freely: Girls Need To Be Encouraged To Choose Science As Career Options

We live in a world dominated by patriarchy. Women are always placed below men and the situation has not improved widely yet. Every year we see a handful of women getting the Nobel Prize in science and technology. From 1901 the number of women was only 25 which is a shame to all. In the world of male domination, most women are forced to give up their studies at a very early age, and even if they are allowed to study the number of careers in science and technology is very minor.

Throughout the entire world, women are not offered jobs based on technology because they are considered as ‘feminine’ and the jobs are more for ‘masculine’. The ratio of this discrimination has increased while it should have been the other way round. In India, the percentage of female graduates of STEM is 43 which is the top rank but in contrast with it, the employment of these female graduates is bound with only 14%.

The percentage of women employed in big Tech companies like – Facebook, Google, etc is 10 to 15 which shows that even though talking about women empowerment and gender equality, no one is actually trying to make the difference very much. This scenario of gender inequality can only be changed if the families, schools, colleges, working organizations, etc. take initiative genuinely for a better future for both men and women.

It is shown in reports too, that gender equality will not only bring balance in society but it also will bring a drastic change in economic conditions. According to a report the gender biases will take at least another 99 years to change. So, we all need to make efforts from today only to bring that change as soon as possible. Because everyone should be judged based on their skills and working power, not based on their gender identity.
