Nanotechnology basically means the branch of technology dealing with the manipulation of matter on an atomic, molecular, and supramolecular level. In various departments of science like – Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, etc. the nanoscale objects are used for different applications. And nanotechnology deals with these sectors.

Nanotechnology is a very new course for India. And that is the reason, no colleges or institutions in India till now offer a bachelor’s degree course in nanotechnology. But the education of nanotechnology is offered at the postgraduate and doctorate level. Students having B.Tech. degree in subjects like – Mechanical, Biomedical, Material Science, Biotechnology, Chemical, Electronics, and Computer Science or B.SC in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Life Science are eligible to apply for post graduation course in nanotechnology.

Eligibility criteria in Nanotechnology:
As there are no proper undergraduate courses in nanotechnology in India, candidates need to pass the intermediate examinations having a science background with the subjects – Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biology.
And for post graduation admission, candidates must pass their B.SC in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Life Science. Or they can do a B.Tech. course in subjects discussed previously.
Candidates wanting to opt for a Ph.D. course must have passed M.Tech. in Biotechnology, Chemical, Electronics, Mechanical, Computer Science. Also, candidates having an M.Sc. degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, Computer Science, etc. can apply for Ph.D.

Admission process:
Different institutions and universities arrange their own entrance examinations for the admission process. The candidates need to appear for the entrance and qualify with certain marks to get admission. But for the admission in M.Tech. program candidates can appear for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or the GATE examinations which are conducted every year.
Career scope in Nanotechnology:
There are a lot of career options in this field. Candidates can have a career in the fields like - healthcare industry research, pharmaceutical, medical, environment industries, product development, and advising, pharmaceutical, communication, and media.
This field is very appropriate for engineers, scientists, and technicians. Engineers use nanotechnology for computer development in their work. And the usage of nanotechnology in daily life is growing even more. And for this reason, the demand for this field as a career option is also going upwards day by day.
The remuneration is also appropriate. The starting salary is based on the field of work. But a newcomer can get a minimum salary of 3 lacs per year. So, as you can see, this field has a great scope in career options. Interested people should definitely go for this field.
