The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has started a new scholarship for girl students studying undergraduate courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This program, called Women Inspiring Growth in STEM (WINGS), is created by IIT Bombay alumnus Bharat Desai and his wife, Neerja Sethi.
The Wings Scholarship will give full tuition fee help to girl students at IIT Bombay so that money problems do not stop their education. The program plans to support more female students and also motivate girls from rural areas to apply. The first group of scholarships will begin in the 2026-2027 academic year.
According to the press note, this scholarship can change women’s education in India by giving new chances and building leadership.
To support women’s progress and equal access to study, the Wings Scholarship is a special project to reduce the low number of girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). IIT Bombay thinks this scheme will change the lives of female students and also impact higher education across the country.
