New Approach On Mathematics :
Several surveys on school education have revealed students' fear of mathematics. To address this fear, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has introduced several new approaches in its mathematics textbooks. Part two of the 8th-grade textbook, 'Ganita Prakash,' has been released. This book attempts to teach mathematics in new ways.
The book is based on the premise that mathematics is everywhere in practical life. It attempts to teach math by showing how to calculate GST on purchases, how to calculate the bill at a restaurant, and how the ratio of spices in food is related to mathematics.
Children will learn math without fear: NCERT Director
NCERT Director Professor Dinesh Prasad Saklani says that "Mathematics is used in practical life, and this has been explained in a very simple way in the book. Math cannot be seen only within a limited scope; it can be explained to students in an interesting way by connecting it to everyday life. This will help students understand mathematics easily, and they will learn it without any fear."
Learning mathematics through stories and puzzles
The contributions of ancient Indian mathematicians and their achievements have been included in the new book. NCERT says that stories, puzzles, and Indian heritage have been used to strengthen students' conceptual understanding. The new book includes the Baudhayana-Pythagoras Theorem. This theorem is attributed to the ancient Indian mathematician Baudhayana (around 800 BC), who lived centuries before Pythagoras. Hence, it is called the Baudhayana-Pythagoras Theorem.
The book covers everything from ancient traditions to modern reforms. Students are introduced to GST in the 8th grade itself. Whether buying a book or a laptop, the bill includes GST. Students will be taught how this GST is calculated. Student will also learn about the modern tools of Excel spreadsheets. The new concept of space traffic management will also be introduced.
