It is usually done by a test called IELTS or International English Language Testing System.
English Proficiency Tests:
There are various proficiency tests like TOEFL, UCELA, and GE which are conducted worldwide. These examinations adhere to the students’ needs and promote them to pursue education worldwide. The most common test which is widely recognized in countries like the US, UK, Australia, Canada is the IELTS test.
IELTS Syllabus
The IELTS exam tests three elements of English that are:
1. Listening
2. Reading
3. Writing
The examination is classified into two categorical tests which are general and academic; These two tests are taken when you are applying for a study or work visa for a foreign country. The speaking test takes about 10-15 mins that includes cross questioning with the examiner, and the questions are usually of a moderate difficulty level in order to assess the individual’s vocational skills. On the other hand, reading is about understanding the idea and concept of the material provided to you. The Writing part is very similar to the Reading one. The listening task, however can be tough as you have to listen to English speeches in different accents.
Preparation at Home
IELTS can be prepared for at home by simply practicing English at a personal level. It can take time, and if no improvement is visible in a two-week time period, then professional help can be sought. The best method to prepare IELTS at home is by developing an understanding of the language. One has to go through several speeches of different people in English, and watch their analysis by English news channels.
