Job profile of a Data Analysts

Data analysis is one of the fastest-growing fields and has a large demand across all types of sectors like finance, marketing, consultancy, education. The ability to observe and produce organized data through clear vision and communication skills. Data analysts deal with the statistical information, transform it into decisive information (conclusions) using tools and patterns. To increase the productivity of a task, defects need to be identified and nullified.

Data analysts are those who find out the problems' insights and make decisions for the company. It also requires knowledge of several tools and software to understand machine learning and algorithms. R and python are commonly used to make a survey and conclusion. One should be presentable enough to make others understand about final reports. Communication and collaboration are also required with other teams/department mates.


Responsibilities

  • Develop records from data and management of the process.
  • Identify areas to improve the process and its efficiencies.
  • Maintaining automated data records and their procedure.
  • Evaluating data services using tools to support data validation.
  • Maintaining the quality of data and monitoring.
  • Collaboration with direct and indirect sources to get authentic data and to understand data content.
  • Survey of data and deep analyzing.
  • Draw valid conclusions using reporting tools.

Jobs are normally office-based, but sometimes consulting may involve traveling.


To pursue a career as a Data analyst one should belong to backgrounds including business studies, computer science, economics, mathematics, statistics, etc. Usually, entry-level jobs are easily available in all companies. Larger companies may offer graduate schemes like government or consulting firms, media and communication, etc.


Job profiles


Junior Analysts: require skills like analytical thinking, research, teamwork, some leadership quality, problem-solving attitude, client and time management. It plays the role of mediator between the software developer and the end-user generally. It ensures the validation of data.


Senior Data Analysts: collects all the authentic data, compiles them together, organizes them, and prepares reports in such a way that other departments get informed data.


Analytics Manager: plays the role of making strategies for effective analysis of data, implementing analytical solutions, leading the team to get maximum output.


Director of Analytics: to improve the quality and efficiency of the business strategies, the director will create and choose the most appropriate strategy.


Chief Data Officer: is the person who is basically in charge of storage and management of data of an organization/company and comes under the executive team of a company/organization.


Business Analysts: to improve the overall strategies of business procedures and its system, comes with the best solutions to expand the business and convince clients.


Financial Analysts: the responsibilities of financial analysts are- financial planning, overview expenditures, and revenues to determine the project cost and suggest a budget of companies.


Operational Analysts: analyse the policies of the company, its method of working and find points of consideration, rectify if needed. It helps companies to improve their performance and recommend programs after reviewing the company’s data and reports.


Marketing Analyst: marketing is one of the most vital departments of a company. It decides the company's position in the competitive market. Marketing analytics collects updated data of the company as well as competitors’ data, reviews them, and comes up with a strategy to win the competition. It considers all the factors regarding manufacturing, sales, services, etc, and reviews the product cost in the market. It observes market trends, researches consumers’ habits,s, and needs. It is responsible for overall distribution and price tactics. 


Health care analyst: is responsible for managing health sectors with proper planning by evaluating records from different sources. It always tries to improve the health care process with cost-effectiveness. After a regular data analysis of dispensaries, visiting health care platforms, public hearings- prepares policies and guidelines for the improvement.


Data analyst consultant: to understand the needs of clients to serve them best and ensure the quality of operating business.


Employers' sectors include retail companies, services firms, media, information technology firms, marketing firms, insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, many government departments, etc.

There are also large opportunities to work as self-employed or freelancing, as a consultant: being paid on the basis of a project or tasks. one can be a specific domain specialist or technical expert. One can also go for data mining, data infrastructure, data visualization, and decision analyzing. It would be beneficial for the person if he/she can gain early experiences with internships while pursuing a degree. It will help you to understand better and learn skills practically.

 

Skills

  • A person should have a problem-solving attitude.
  • To work in complex systems and codes one should be capable enough to translate insights into the simplest form to understand records.
  • It requires a high level of concentration, high interpretation, and communication skills.
  • Excellence in numerical and analytical skills.
  • Sufficient exposure and knowledge of data analysis tools.
  • Familiar with databases, data modeling, data cleaning techniques.
  • Develop appropriate methods for document processes and workflows.
  • Able to carry out data monitoring and control the quality.
  • Able to understand data protection policies and related issues.
  • Able to convert data into visuals like graphical representation etc.
  • Able to interpret data into decision-making key factors for the benefit of the company/organization.
