Benefits offered to wards of Indian Diaspora and NRIs for education in India
For assisting the wards and children of PIOs and NRIs to pursue technical and higher education in India, The ministry of Indian affair overseas, GOI, has introduced special program of scholarship that has been titled “scholarship program for the Diaspora children or SPDC, for academic sessions 2006-2007. This program of scholarship is only applicable for general and professional undergraduate courses, excepting the medical and the areas related to medicine. Under this particular scheme, financial assistance gets provided towards services post admission, admission fee and tuition fee.
Scholarship to at least 100 students that have been selected
The scholarship is meant for a total of hundred students, comprising 50 for the NRIs and fifty for PIOs. If there are no students under category of PIO, scholarship gets offered to NRI candidates that are suitable. Key objective related to SPDC is making available highly developed high education system to the children of the Indian Diaspora that is NRIs and PIOs that live in selected countries. Ample facilities are provided for the higher education. This scheme aims at strengthening ties between Indian culture and Indian Diaspora.
Wards an children from almost forty selected countries like Netherlands, Indonesia, Germany, France, Canada, Bahrain Australia and many more, are eligible under program of SPDC for scholarship.
The GOI scholarships
Indian government offers many scholarships each year to the foreign students who are interested to study in Indian subcontinent. However, the scholarships do not get directly offered to students that are interested. Offers related to scholarships are usually sent to respective governments through diplomatic sessions of Indians staying in abroad.
 The students that are interested can easily contact the governments and have them nominated. Nominations are received from foreign governments by high commission or Indian embassy.
GCSS
GCSS is the general cultural scheme of scholarship. This is given to the international students internationally, those belonging to Latin American, African and Asian countries for postgraduate, undergraduate and those wanting to pursue research work under the Universities of India.
 However, the scholarships related to medical studies or for research in the medical field, under this, are not offered. Many countries like Zimbabwe, Zaire, Somalia, Tobago, Afghanistan, Botswana, Fiji, Palestine and various others are covered.
Program of cultural exchange
ICCR or cultural relations council of India offers scholarships to the international students, each year as per program of cultural exchange between government of respective country and India. These can be easily availed for research, training and studying in multiple fields. These facilities are provided to scholars and involve expenses related to study tours, medical benefits, dissertation and thesis charges, tuition fees, contingent grant and living allowance.
Scheme of technical corporation related to Colombo Plan
Under this particular scheme, scholarships are offered to take studies of post-graduate studies and under-graduate ones as well as research towards Ph.D. degree. At the under-graduate level, there is availability of few scholarships for the diploma courses and engineering degrees. Category one is meant for officers training that is further meant for medium term and short courses. Second category is for postgraduates, undergraduates and students that come for long-term, medium and short term courses.
