The medical line is considered to be the most noble of all, and is an extreme contrast with fields such as engineering and law. To be put simply, Medicine isn’t really a simple field. MBBS or Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is the most common undergraduate degree pursued by medical enthusiasts. This course awards two bachelor degrees in the form of one. The course started in the United Kingdom and has continued till now in several countries. On the other hand, in the US both the degrees are awarded separately as Doctor of Medicine or M.D. and D.O. or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

The MBBS program takes an average of five and a half years for completion depending on the duration of the internship (average is one year). There are several prestigious colleges from around the nation which offer this course. Students who clear their 12th Boards with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are eligible to apply for this course via the NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) examination. The primary qualification requirements are having at least 50% (40% for reserved seats) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology in Class 12 Boards along with being between 17 and 25 years of age.

The student must also clear the NEET examination and get a high enough ranking to be selected by a college of their liking. The pay and scope of MBBS is quite appealing for most, however it depends on the college you get your medical degree from. The average expected salary of most students is 8 to 10 lakhs per year. However, this can be increased by a significant margin after completing a post-graduate course such as MD or MS. Students can also get a higher pay rate by applying to hospitals abroad.
