AICTE- MBA AND PGDM CAN NOT GO SIMULTANEOUSLY IN SAME INSTITUTIONS

The All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) has currently announced that the MBA (Master of Business Administration) course and PGDM (Postgraduate Diploma in Management) course cannot be offered simultaneously in the same institute.

“Over a period of time, deemed to be universities have added PGDM course under the banner of ‘Management Programme’ in contravention of norms according to the AICTE Regulations, 2020, conducting PGDM and MBA courses in the same institution is not permissible,” AICTE said. Now the universities have to choose between the two courses, either MBA or PGDM.

The HRD Ministry (Union Human Resource Development) has said that PGDM courses can run by the standalone institutions, which are neither universities nor affiliated to any university, similar to the prestigious IIMs.

According to the rules, the institutes which are affiliated to the universities have an option, that either they can convert all the PGDM courses into the corresponding MBA courses with the respective university affiliation or vice-versa and can run those under a separate standalone institute. It is to be noted that those candidates who have an MBA degree are eligible for Ph.D., and those with PGDM degree cannot pursue research or doctoral studies.
