Recently, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has launched two full-time master’s programs which are MSc in Cognitive Science and MSc in Economics. The session will start from July 2020 and will be headed by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Institute.
The institute will be built on the theories and the methods from psychology, linguistics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, philosophy, and anthropology, among others. The aim of the MSc in Economics program is to impart advanced training in economics with a focus on quantitative skills. As per the new rules from IIT Delhi, the curriculum will teach broader issues related to the developmental challenges in India and beyond.
The seats provided under these programs are twenty-five. The interested and eligible candidates can register themselves at the official website of the institute. The candidates will also have to appear for a national level entrance examination that is a Joint Admission Test or JAM.
"The two new Masters programs are uniquely designed to provide exciting learning opportunities to the students and also contribute positively to the ongoing transformation of the higher education in India." said an officer from the institute.
According to the coordinators of the Masters in Cognitive Science Program Professor Samar Husain and Professor Yashpal Jogdand, "The program curriculum is research-based and will familiarize students with diverse theories, methods, and tools to understand the architecture and functioning of the human mind. Students will develop the necessary skills and understanding required to make complex information, technology, and systems more accessible. Many industries require such skills and understanding to solve practical problems. Thus, along with pursuing a career in academia, students will be able to work at the crossroads of academic-industry linkages."
The program of M.Sc. in Cognitive Science is a highly interdisciplinary building on the theories and methods from psychology, linguistics, neuroscience, artificial intelligence, philosophy and, anthropology among others.
