The final semester exams for the final year engineering students of Anna University will likely to be held online in July or August. The announcement has been made due to the widespread demands of engineering students to cancel the even semester exams for the academic year of 2019-2020.
The Vice-Chancellor MK Surappa told, "Students in their final year will need their exam results to apply for jobs or higher studies. We want to conduct the final semester exams alone as early as possible."
Although, no decisions have been taken regarding the other semester exams. The students have started an online campaign requesting the university to cancel the exams and declare all students as having passed. The campaign has been initiated after the Pondicherry University and many other autonomous institutions in the state cancelled the semester exams recently. Many students have said that they do not have their books with them as they used to live in hostels. Some of the students rely on library books or the photocopies of important notes. Also, some students have claimed that they do not have internet connections to give an online examination.
Vice-Chancellor also had said that the university is aware of the limited access to books and the internet of the students, therefore they are planning to conduct the final semester exams only, the other semester exams might be conducted after the situation comes to normal. No final decision has been taken yet.
