Due to Corona Virus pandemic, exams of final year students which were supposed to be held in May had been postponed to July and August. But now the situations are becoming worse, therefore these final year exams are likely to be cancelled and the commencement of the new academic session deferred to October.
Although the pending CBSE Board exams were also likely to be cancelled which were scheduled to be held in July and August. The JEE (Main) and NEET-UG are also to be postponed.
The UGC panel of experts headed by Haryana University Vice-Chancellor RC Kuhad reviewed the prevailing situation and recommended the cancellation of the final-year examinations in the universities.
The senior UGC official had said, “the expert panel has observed that the final examination cannot be held in July as scheduled due to the risk of exposure to the students.” He also said that the new guidelines are likely to be issued in a couple of days after getting approval from the HRD ministry.
Ramesh Pokhriyal, the HRD Minister had advised UGC to revisit the guidelines issued earlier for the intermediate and the terminal semester examinations and the academic calendar. The foundation for the revisited guidelines will be according to the health and safety of the students and teachers and all the staff.
Universities and schools have been closed since March 16 when the central government announced a nationwide lockdown.
