With the ongoing challenges faced by the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the question on the timing and manner of reopening of educational institutions varies from state to state. The UGC’s guidelines are more specific on holding long hours of six days a week to accommodate students ensuring safety protocols and distancing whenever they access by physical means to their reputed institutions amidst the pandemic avoiding all cultural, co- curriculum and other activities where physical gathering is unavoidable. Here is some of the latest news on the opening of the educational institutes:
· Schools in Haryana have resumed their physical access from 21 December for classes 9-12 maintaining proper protocols, with a fall in attendance.
· Schools in Karnataka highly reopened from 1 January for classes 10 and 12 while classes from (6-9) would start the Vidyagama programme.
· Elementary schools are likely to be reopened in a swayed manner in Assam from 1 January following Covid-19 protocols and consent from parents.
· Schools in Mumbai are likely to remain shut till 31 December with the consent of increase in cases as a safety measure.
· In West Bengal, the education minister has asked the higher education institutes in the state to plan for resuming classes in December.
· Partial reopening of schools in Goa with Standard Operating Procedures from 21 November has commenced with strict regulations to hygiene, attendance and protocols.
· Schools in Delhi are not likely to be reopened amid the spurt in Covid-19 cases and concern for its students.
The UGC has restricted the reopening of hostels, where sharing rooms are not allowed and have strictly enforced to provide the required healthcare support to those who severely are tested positive and kept isolated. In these tough times of distress and despair, let's really hope and pledge towards a vibrant future where the new normal is brightened-up by the faces of the children again going back to their second home with fun- filled joy, love and enthusiasm.
