Follow These Easy“ E-Learning” Rules To Develop A Stronger And Better Online Decorum

It’s almost ten months now; most of the educational institutions are shut since mid- March, 2020. In all these while, students, teachers and including the parents have all equipped themselves with the newly advanced technological form of online teaching and learning. Even though the technology and methods of handling it has changed the nature of the students whether virtually or physically yet remains unchanged. As a result, the student’s behaviour needs to be moderated towards creating a productive classroom where sending inappropriate messages and texts, undermining lectures, harassing each other and most importantly finding oneself to be lost when the classes are on, needs to be extracted and stopped from now on so as to create a better understanding of handling online resources and developing an online etiquette while participating in online classes. Through this article, we provide to you some of the important rules for e-learning and also to develop a stronger etiquette in this digitally dominant society or age.

·        RULE 1: MEETING “ONLINE” CLASSROOMS EXPECTATIONS

It is very important to consider a set of rules that one is comfortable with while meeting the online classroom expectations.

·        RULE 2: FOLLOWING THE RULES PROPERLY

Following these rules of conduct that online forums provide is a must. Reading them every time and abiding by them should be done properly by every student.

·        RULE 3: IDENTIFICATION MUST BE CLEAR

Identification must be clear whenever communication takes place in an online class usually in the text. The communication can begin with a salutation (greeting someone) and end with your signature (name with class or any other details to identify).

·        RULE  4: BE WELL- MANNERED AND ON TIME

When communicating via video, one must use your real name. One can even raise their hand on the other side of the screen to ask a question or to let know their opinion if there is no prompt button available. One must be polite and can even address their teachers or other students with a lot of respect, even if they disagree on something, one must avoid being disrespectful or shouting in order to show their anger. One should always be punctual while attending classes whether offline or online, submitting documents and assignments, appearing for examinations and most importantly joining their classes on time to avoid further chaos and interrupting discussions in between classes.

·        RULE 5:  PROTECTING ONE’S PRIVACY

Protect your privacy by not sharing any personal information in a public online forum and also respecting other people’s privacy by not sharing their details without their permission.

·        RULE 6: DON’T MISUSE THE CHAT BOX

Students should not misuse the chat box by sending inappropriate texts or messages rather understand and use this class chat box as a foremost learning tool by using words wisely and commenting on it appropriately.

·        RULE 7: ORGANIZING ONE’S LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

Setting up a good learning environment by keeping a track of every update online can help one to be in rhythm in this technologically advanced world. Arranging devices to checking emails and important notifications to submitting assessments and getting all the work done on time would drive an urge in promoting a better and effective learning among everyone. One can even watch encouraging videos to promote more of these e-learning skills.
