UPSC Exam Update: New dates for Civil Services Prelims Exam to be announced on May 20, 2020
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has deferred the Civil Services 2020 preliminary examination as the lockdown extended two more weeks to curb the COVID-19 spread. Earlier, the UPSC was supposed to organise the UPSC IAS Prelims exam on 31 May 2020 for the recruitment of 796 vacancies in the civil services. There was a lot of speculation regarding the exam being postponed.
UPSC has already postponed a lot of scheduled examinations including the on-going Personal Interviews for UPSC Civil Services 2019 Exams, UPSC NDA, NA Exam 2020. UPSC has also deferred the release of notification of a few exams including the UPSC IES Exam 2020 and Combined Medical Services as well as CAPF Examinations 2020.
The officials added that new dates will be announced on May 20 after assessing the situation and as and when dates are decided for the deferred tests/ examinations, it will be ensured that candidates are given a notice of at least 30 days. Over 10 lakh candidates register for the Civil Services preliminary exam every year.
After the exam dates are fixed, UPSC will issue admit cards to candidates. The admit cards will be available on the official website of UPSC and will have details of the exam centre, time, session, city, etc. “UPSC has done what needed to be done,” said an official privy to the developments. “In the current scenario where Covid-19 is spreading, it is not feasible to hold such a large scale exam.”
The Commission, the official added, has not taken a call on a fresh date for the prelims. “The date will be decided in due course of time after evaluating the situation,” the official added.
It is advisable that candidates should now focus on preparations for the IAS Civil Services 2020 exam. It is the right time for the IAS aspirants to focus their energies on the exam preparations.
