BVR Mohan Reddy Committee has recommended that the freeze on the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to approve new Engineering colleges in the country to be extended for two more years. Few exceptions introduced are State Government proposals to start new polytechnics including PPP mode, proposals from any industry with an annual turnover of 5k crore registered as trust or society, and philanthropical organizations older than 25 years running other educational institutes with an enrolment of 10 K students.
Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of AICTE stated that " These exceptions confirm that only time-tested organizations can start a new engineering institute." "Infrastructure Quality will also matter. Post AICTE nod new institutions have to ascertain that at least 60% of their programs get accreditations for two batches after their initiation"
