SPPU will conduct written exams for final year students in July; no changes in fee structure

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is about to conduct the written examinations for the final year graduate and postgraduate final year students in the month of July, although Maharashtra higher education minister Uday Samant has urged the UGC to cancel all the exams. Also, the university also has announced that the old fee structure has been extended by the year to provide relief to the students and parents in the Pandemic.

The decision has been taken at the Vidya Parishad meeting which has been held by SPPU vice-chancellor Nitin Karmalkar on Saturday. The examination will be based on 60 per cent of the syllabus which has been completed before the national lockdown. Similarly, the students of third-year will appear for the written exams of 50 Marks and the exam will be conducted for the duration of two hours.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the students, the evaluation will be given on the basis of earlier exams, internal marks, projects, and internships, also the marks will be given accordingly. Five committees have been made who will be responsible to prepare a plan to conduct the exams. The SPPU Vidya Parishad has given a sanction to this action plan and the Parishad have given the sanction to the new syllabus of the undergraduate and post-graduate second-year courses at the meeting.

The director of the examination and evaluation board of the SPPU said that there will be no academic loss to the students of SPPU and its affiliated colleges. He also added, “All the precautionary measures will be taken and lockdown rules will be followed while conducting this exam in the month of July. Soon a review meeting will be held to finalise the timetable of the exam.”

Meanwhile, the proposal of fee hike of all the courses have been extended by one year in SPPU, the final decision will be soon announced after the meeting of SPPU management council.

SPPU has approved a new fee structure proposal for the courses, but as the students and parents are suffering through financial burdens due to Covid-19 lockdown it will be implemented after one year. This year according to the old fee structure, fees will be charged to the students.” Karmalkar said.
