    Application Form Fee

    The application fee is as follows

    Women candidatesRs. 150/­
    SC/ST/PwD category candidates Rs. 150/­
    All other candidates Rs. 300/­
    • The fee is to be paid by SBI Internet Banking/ Online Payment System and you do not have to submit the printed copy of the application. Applications without online payment details will not be considered.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    Registration

    • Click 'Online Application' on PHD ONLINE Application Homepage
    • This will take you to the "IITB External User Registration Portal".
    • Click on "New user? Click here to register" button.
    • Enter your email id with which you want to register with the portal.
    • On clicking register, an email will be sent to the email id specified by you which will contain the activation URL.
    • Click on the activation URL specified in the email and fill the personal details form to complete the registration process.

    Login for registered applicant

    • Registered Applicant should click 'ONLINE Application' on PHD ONLINE Application Homepage.
    • Type in your Registered emailid and Password as registered with "IITB External User Registration Portal", and click 'Login'.

    Filling of ONLINE Application by the Registered Applicant (after login)

    • Enter departments (atleast one), personal details, research interest of your choice, valid gate score (if available), employment details etc.
    • Either use 'Save And Continue Later' or 'Submit Finally' option.
    • You can preview your application at every stage by clicking on 'Preview Form'.
    • ONLINE Application will be processed only if 'Submit Finally' option is clicked.
    • Applicant can correct any mistakes / make changes in the "finally submitted application" by clicking on the link "UnFreeze Application".
    • Once the applicant clicks on unfreeze application, the application will be treated as Draft/Un-Submitted Application , which will allow the applicant to make changes.
    • Very IMP : Please note that application form will NOT be considered for further processing if Applicant does not Submit the application form Finally, even if the applicant has filled it completely along with application fees payment.
    • Do not keep the page idle for more than 30 minutes, otherwise the session will expire.

    Documents to be Uploaded

    • Upload scanned 3.5 x 4.5 photo (of type jpg/jpeg/png) with size less than 40 kb.
    • Upload scanned Signature (of type jpg/jpeg/png) with size less than 10 kb.
    • Upload scanned Marksheet of last semester/Consolidated Marksheet of the Qualifying Degree (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload scanned Caste Certificate [ OBC-NC/SC/ST ] if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload scanned EWS certificate if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload scanned PD certificate if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload scanned Sponsorship certificate if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload other exam score card if applicable (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb.
    • Upload scanned Statement of Purpose (SoP) , (of type PDF) with size less than 500 kb, for all academic units : Statement of Purpose (SOP) is your opportunity to share with the admission committee your thoughts and feelings about Postgraduate studies at IIT Bombay including your preparation for the same. Briefly describe past project/ research work done by you. Restrict yourself to 500-600 words. The personal SOP will aid the admission committee in evaluating your application.
      • Along with your application, you have to submit a Statement of Purpose for all academic units.
      • If you are applying to Management (SJMSOM), you are required to submit research proposal (1500 words) on a topic of your research interest in place of Statement of Purpose. The proposal should contain (a) problem identification, (b) brief review of literature, and (c) proposed methodology.
      • If you are applying to Department of Humanities & Social Sciences, Policy Studies, CTARA or CSRE, you need to upload Statement of Purpose as well as a research proposal along with the application form. The Research Proposal for applying to Policy Studies, Technology & Development (CTARA) should contain (a) problem identification, (b) brief review of literature and (c) proposed methodology. The SOP for CSRE should refer to one or more topics of interest FROM THE LIST of topics announced on CSRE webpage https://www.csre.iitb.ac.in/phdTopics.php
      • Candidates applying to IDC are required to submit a SOP along with a 1500 word proposal that should specify (a) research area (b) brief review of literature and (c) methodology. The candidates have also to submit a recent work or paper related to their area of research.
      • Candidates applying to Educational Technology are required to submit a Statement of Purpose containing (a) your interests and motivation for applying to ET (max. 50 words), (b) relevance of your recent and current activities (max. 200 words), (c) details about your academic interests including (but not limited to) your areas of interest, a problem that interests you, and what you plan on doing after completing your Ph.D. (max. 250 words).
    • Try to scan it using 200dpi so that the document will automatically compress upto required Upload Size.

    Payment (after login)

    • Online payment options available are : SBI Internet Banking, Canara Internet Banking and PAYU payment gateway (includes credit card, debit card and internet banking of all major banks).
    • Online payment can be made only after final submission of ONLINE Application Form.
    • Application Fee is Rs.300/- (Rs.150/- for SC/ST/PwD & Female Applicants)
    • Online payment can be made by clicking on 'Pay Online'.
