National Institute of Design Entrance Exam (Prelims) For Master of Design 2020 or NID DAT (Prelims) M.Des. 2020 is the entrance examination for admission to M.Des. (Animation Film Design), M.Des. (Film and Video Communication), M.Des. (Graphic Design), M.Des. (Photography Design), M.Des. (Ceramic and Glass Design) and other courses. NID DAT (Prelims) M.Des. 2020 is conducted by National Institute of Design.

NID DAT (Prelims) M.Des. for the year 2020 has been announced by National Institute of Design and will be held on 29/12/2019. The application forms will be available from 01/10/2019 till 21/11/2019. The exam is in written mode. The duration of the exam will be 150 minutes. Admit card will be available from 20/12/2019. Result is expected to be announced on 21/02/2020.

NID DAT 2020 (Prelims) M.Des. Eligibility Criteria

Master of Design (M.Des.)

All applicants applying for the M.Des. programme (any discipline) must fulfill criteria of both age and education qualification.

Age Limit: 

  • For Indian Nationals in General Category & General EWS Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (Other Backward Class-Non Creamy Layer (OBC- NCL), Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST): Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1987 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Indian Nationals in Person with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1985 are eligible to apply for admission.
  • For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category: Only those candidates born on or after 1 July 1990 are eligible to apply for admission.

Educational Qualification:

  • In addition to satisfying the above age criteria, the candidate must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications to be considered eligible for admissions:
    • Bachelor Degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard from any university or institute recognised by law in India.
      • Condition: Candidate must have passed the Bachelor Degree examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*.

OR

    • Bachelor Degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard.
      • Condition: Candidates must have passed the Bachelor Degree examinations before June 2019.

OR

    • Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture, after 12th standard or equivalent to 12th standard, from any university or institute recognized by law in India.
      • Condition: Candidates must have passed the Diploma examinations at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in April/May 2020*.

Note:

  • Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor's degree/ Full-time Diploma program
  • whose universities may not have issued the final degree certificate by the date of application to NID are eligible to apply, subject to passing all subjects without any backlog. Such candidate will have to submit/produce Provisional Degree certificate at the time of counseling.
  • In case the degree/certificate has been obtained from a University/Board of any country other than India, an equivalence certificate must be obtained by the candidate from the
  •  Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi, at the time of document verification tentatively scheduled in June April/May 2020. Visit the official website for more details.

    Application Form Filling Instructions

    How to Apply 

    Applicants will have to visit the official admissions website and follow the steps below: 

    Step 0:

    Read and familiarise yourself with the eligibility criteria, number of seats, test centres, reservation policy and other relevant information related to admissions to the M.Des. programmes in Admissions Handbook 2019 - 20 & confirm that you have read and agreed the same

    Note:

    The Design Aptitude Tests – DAT Prelims and DAT Mains are common to applicants to all three institutes, NID Ahmedabad, NID Vijayawada and NID Kurukshetra.

    Step 1: Sign up / Registration

    • Candidates are required to register/sign up online before proceeding to fill the application form. This is to be done only at http://admissions.nid.edu
    • Candidates must provide a valid email address and an active mobile number while registering, since these contacts will be used for all future communication with the candidate. Ensure that this email id and mobile number is active till 31 August 2020.
    • After registration, login credentials will be sent via an email to the registered email address (do remember to check your spam or junk folders in case you do not find the email in your inbox). In case, wrong email address and/or mobile number has been provided during signup, you are required to register afresh with the correct details.
    • Do not delete the email sent to you, as this will be useful for future reference.
    • Log in to your account using login and password to proceed further.

    Step 2: Fill the Online Application Form

    • Log in and proceed to Step 2–Application Form.
    • Fill in all the required details.

    Note: Candidates are allowed to apply for maximum of two disciplines.

    • After filling all details, click ‘Save & Proceed’ to go to the next section to ‘Upload Document’.
    • Click ‘Save & Exit’ to complete the form at a later time or date.

    • Upload a scanned recent passport size photograph as per the instructions. The photograph must be in JPG/JPEG format, should be of minimum 60 KB and maximum 100 KB in size. It must be a coloured photograph taken at a professional studio. Photographs with self-composed portraits will not be accepted.
    • Upload your scanned signature as per the instructions. The signature file must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 100 KB in size. You should have your signature digitally photographed or scanned and cropped to the required size.
    • Candidates applying under the GEN-EWS category are required to upload their valid EWS Certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of EWS certificate must be 01 April 2019 or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL category are required to upload their valid OBC- NCL Certificate issued by a competent authority. The date of issue of OBC-NCL certificate must be 01 April 2019 or later. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the OBC-NCL, SC and ST categories are required to upload their valid Caste Certificate issued by a competent authority. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the Persons with Disability (PwD) category are required to upload their valid Disability Certificate issued by a competent medical authority as per the guidelines of the Government of India. The certificate must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.
    • Candidates applying under the Overseas category are required to upload the first and last pages of their valid passport, clearly showing all their personal information. The document must be in JPG/JPEG format and not exceed 150 KB in size.

    • All of these scanned documents must be in JPG / JPEG format.
    • Once you are done with uploading all the necessary documents, click ‘Save and Exit’ to complete the form at a later time or date.

    Step 4: Pay Application Fee and Print

    • The above fees are applicable to all M.Des. candidates, irrespective of gender.
    • Application fee is NEITHER refundable NOR transferable.
    • The Application fees paid online (by Debit/Credit Card) DOES NOT INCLUDE any bank transaction charges, and the same, as applicable, will have to be borne by the candidate.
    • Candidate will be asked to verify their details, after which they can proceed to make the payment.
    • Select method of payment— (a) ONLINE (via Debit/Credit Card) or (b) OFFLINE only By Demand Draft. Enter the required details as specified.
    • For candidates paying ONLINE: You will be directed to the payment gateway. After completing the payment process, you will be redirected to the ‘Print’ section where you can save your form as a PDF file and print it. You are NOT required to send the print-out of your application form if you are paying online via Debit/Credit Card.
    •  For candidates paying OFFLINE: Prepare a Demand draft of the amount in favour of
    • ‘All India Management Association’ payable at New Delhi. Fill in the details of the Demand Draft online to complete the submission process. Save the Application Form as a PDF File and print it. This should be done before 1400 hrs on Thursday, 07 November 2019.
    • To complete the application process, you must send the Demand Draft and aprintout of your application form in a single envelope to the following address (via Speed Post/Courier only ), so as to reach before 1400 hrs on Wednesday, 13 November, 2019:

    Please note that candidates who have made online payment via debit / credit card are NOT required to send the print - out of your application form.

      Window to Edit Application Form (13 to 15 November 2019)

      • Candidates will be given an opportunity to review and correct their information in the application form starting from 1800 hrs on 13 November 2019 until 1800 hrs on 15 November 2019.
      • The information related to eligibility criteria, date of birth, category, email id, nationality and the discipline applied for while submitting up the application form CANNOT be modified.
      • Application fees already paid will not be refunded in case the application is found not eligible for admissions to NID after modifying the information in the application form.
      • Candidates are fully and solely responsible to provide correct information during the application process. At any stage, if it is found that the information provided by the candidate is not correct, NID has the right to cancel his/her candidature. Any direct or indirect attempt to influence the management and employees of the Institute will lead to automatic disqualification of the candidate

      The National Institute of Design has authorised the All India Management Association, New Delhi, to process all its applications for the M.Des. programme.

      NID DAT 2020 (Prelims) M.Des. Syllabus

      About DAT Prelims: 

       It comprises of a mix of objective and subjective questions

      • Part 1 Objective Type - Multiple Choice Questions
      • Part 2 Subjective Type

      The M.Des. DAT prelims paper is of 2 ½ hour duration and 100 marks, comprising of a Common Design Aptitude Test and a faculty-specific Domain Test, which together evaluate the Design aptitude of the candidate. The word “Faculty” here refers to the five existing faculty streams at NID (i) Communication Design, (ii) Industrial Design, (iii) Information Technology Integrated Programmes, (iv) Inter-Disciplinary Design Studies, and (v) Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle and Accessory Design. The DAT Prelims paper comprises of a mix of objective and subjective questions.

      About DAT Mains for M.Des:

      The DAT Mains for M.Des. programmes consists of two parts:

      • Studio Test: This may consist of tests in different formats. Total marks of the test will be out of 100 and the duration will be of three hours. The DAT Mains will be conducted in English.
      • Interviews: The interviews will be conducted separately for each discipline, immediately after the Studio Test, and at the same centre as the Studio Test.

      • Use only Blue or Black Ball Point Pen to darken the oval for answering
      • Do not darken more than one oval against any question. No marks will be given for such responses.
      • Rough work, if any, is to be done on the Question Booklet only. No separate sheet will be provided/used for rough work.
      • Calculator, Mobile or any Electronic Gadgets, etc., are not permitted inside the examination hall.
      • Candidates seeking, receiving and / or giving assistance during the test will be disqualified.
      • Appropriate civil / criminal proceedings will be instituted against the candidates taking or attempting to take this Question Booklet or part of it outside the examination hall.
      • The right to exclude any question (s) from final evaluation rests with the Examining authority

      Announcement of Results

      In order to be considered for the merit list, a candidate must have appeared for all the tests in both the DAT Prelims and the DAT Mains. 

      Results for DAT Prelims:

      • Based on the scores obtained in the DAT Prelims, separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category applied for by the candidate. Results for admission to NID for the Academic Year 2020–21 for the M.Des. Programme (including overseas candidates) will be declared only on the official admissions website as per the schedule announced in Section 2 of this document. The candidates’ scores will also be available for viewing at this time. Separate result score cards (digital or hard copy) will NOT be provided to the candidates.
      • In case the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, the following tie- break policy will be used for awarding ranks:
        • Higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks DAT Prelims (Part B).
        • If this does not break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has obtained higher marks in DAT - Prelims (Part A).
        • If this still does not break the tie, then both the candidates will be assigned the same rank.

      Rechecking of DAT Prelims Exam

      • Requests for rechecking the answer booklet of the DAT Prelims can be submitted ONLINE ONLY on the official website Rechecking will be restricted to–
        • Whether all the answers have been marked.
        • Whether there has been any mistake in the totaling of marks for each question in Part II of answer booklet and transferring the marks correctly onto the first cover page of the answer booklet.
      • No other re-evaluation of the answer script or other work done by the candidate as a part of the examination will be carried out.
      • No candidate, person or organization shall be entitled to claim re-evaluation or disclosure or inspection of the answer scripts or copies of it and other documents as these are treated as most confidential by the NID Admission Cell.
      • On rechecking the answer booklet, if it is found that there is an error, the marks will be revised accordingly.
      • The communication regarding the revision of marks, if any, shall be sent to the requesting candidate’s registered email id ONLY.
      • The Institute will not be responsible for any loss or damage or any inconvenience caused to the candidate consequent to the revision of marks and no claims in this regard shall be entertained. The revised score after rechecking will be considered final.
      • Any rechecking re-checking request will not be processed if submitted without a scanned copy of the Admit Card duly signed by the invigilator and with the seal of the test centre. 
      • Rechecking request will not be accepted over email and have to be submitted by the candidate online only at the official website of NID.
      • The details about “How to submit the rechecking request” will be available on the official website of admissions at a later stage.
