The Film and Television Institute of India: Premier College for Film making Training in India

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is located at in the premises of the erstwhile Prabhat Studios in Pune. It was setup in 1960. FTII is an Autonomous Society under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The old Studios of Prabhat have been converted into now heritage structures.
FTII is a centre for excellence in audio visual media across the world and one of the best film institutes in India. FTII offers eleven full-time courses in various disciplines as well as a host of short term courses. Many of these courses are held on-campus in Pune as well as off-campus at across centres all over India.

Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Admission Process

All the admissions are done through a nationally administered Joint Entrance Test (JET) as well as subsequent rounds of Orientation and Interviews. Selection of students is based on JET scores, and performance in the orientation & interviews. The criteria for short listing courses may vary according to the nature of the courses.

FTII Eligibility Criteria for each course

3 Year Post Graduate Diploma ProgrammeEligibility
Direction & Screenplay WritingShould be a Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent 
Cinematography
Editing
Sound Recording & Design Physics as a subject is required in 10+2.
Art Direction and Production DesignBachelor’s Degree is required in Applied Arts, Architecture, Painting, Sculpture, Interior Design or related fields in Fine Arts or equivalent diploma from a recognized institute in any of the above
2 Year Post Graduate Diploma ProgrammeEligibility
ActingShould be a Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent

Candidates who have not received their graduation degree before the application date are required to submit the same before the date of admission.

Scholarships for studies at FTII

Some scholarships are given to deserving students in the three-year Diploma courses in Film and Television and One Year Certificate Course in Television. These are awarded at the beginning of each course year based on the performance at the time of admission and later based on the performance in the annual examination in theory, practical and projects. Scholarship is also provided by various state governments and memorial awards instituted by individuals or trusts.

Facilities for students at FTII

Students are provided all kind of facilities including separate hostel for boys and girls, cafeteria, sports facilities and a very large book and video library. Pune is a wonderful city with a wonderful weather all year round. Recently a new hostel has been added to the inventory.
Learning environment in the institute is excellent with all kind of equipment available to teach. International collaboration with other film schools across the world facilitates exchange programs and lateral learning from other countries. Admission to this institute is an honour and an opportunity to learn from the best in the country. Illustrious alumni of the fame of Mithun Chakarvarti, Raj Kumar Hirani, Jaya Bhaduri, Om Puri, Shabana Azmi, Nasiruddin Shah, Shatrugan Sinha and many more have passed out from the institution.
